There are absolutely cases where "shill" is cried over-zealously. Overwatch is certainly not one of those cases.
Dark Souls at its peak had maybe half as many threads spammed at a given time, and that was with it being a sequel to Demon's Souls, which was a huge hit with /v/ in general and vastly expanded the audience by moving to PC. There was already a playerbase there avidly anticipating it. With Overwatch, it was a "literally who" game that no one cared about until the day of the open beta, when all of a sudden it became (from the view of an onlooker) /v/'s favorite game ever.
Dark Souls's board presence grew organically. Hell, even D44M's current praise could be said to have evolved out of the hate circlejerk for its multiplayer that was present for many weeks, as the campaign pleasantly surprised people whose standards were lowered by the open beta. Overwatch's thread count is extremely suspicious, as is the language used.
You can think what you like, of course. Lord knows you will regardless. But remember that there's two sides to this coin- just because there's a boy crying wolf doesn't mean wolves don't exist.
