I'll bet 9 out of 10 that you ran out of fuel. Make a wood furnace, get some charcoal, smelt some bituminous coal, profit.
Check your charcoal/coal/coke stocks with [z], assuming you aren't a complete train wreck and have a bookkeeper.

I have a habit of destroying walls that are off from the other around them, and replacing them with walls made of blocks of the same colour. Doing that makes me unable to engrave the walls, but god damn it I don't want some brown shit in my white hall.
