>download this WAD file (basically an ISO for eshop stuff, it runs in the same fashion)
>once you have both, open dolphin and make sure the wad works + set up your controller
>when you're done, click on tools > start netplay
>pick either connect if you're using someone else's code or host if you want to host your own match (hosting requires a port to be open)
>play smash 64
The wad file is a hack of Smash 64 that has all the characters unlocked by default and lets you do some cool shit like play on battlefield or final destination.

There has to be more; since the Everdrive upgrades over time, people have finally been able to mod 64 with more ease. I left the 64 scene for Melee years ago so I'm not that versed in the current stuff, but is really worth to check it out.

The build being used here and most of places is the same build on Anther's ladder for Melee/PM (http://www.smashladder.com/http://www.smashladder.com/)
Though they use Project64K for SSB, regardless, Dolphin is also used by some people and not at all discarded as a legit option for netplay.

looks like the download might've fucked up a bit? try redownloading. Does the game run at all or is the crash instant?
One thing to try would be to change the video plugin in graphics settings. Change it to OpenGL if you're on DX or to DX if you're on OpenGL.
