My favourite Genesis game, seriously. This game has flow and a nice level design.

Really tight, balanced mechanics. Game play felt familiar but distinct from Shinobi III, the same way III did from Revenge before it. Good level design too, though some of the later stages could have been a bit more inspired.

Game is far from perfect, but it's definitely an admirable sequel that did a lot of things right even if a few other things (the 3D stages, especially the surfing one, the music) miss the mark.

I still don't see how. If you're talking about the double jump it simply requires timing at the apex of the first jump.

Not Shinobi III, maybe the older titles.

Also the only responsive NG is the Itagaki 3D games, the 2D ones are not what I'd call responsive but I would not call them clunky either.

Jmping, attacks, shuriken throws, wall-clings are all slightly unresponsive compared to games like NG or, dunno, Contra Hard Corps. It's always been a problem with Sega first parties from Sonic to Jet Set Radio. It's always a bit second rate compared to best action games.

Eh, no. It's just a matter of timing due to the animations (or execution, in the case of the double jump or wall-jump). I wouldn't say it's "second rate."

Yeah, just go to options and set the starting kunai amount to zero and avoid picking them up
It is a lot harder but you can slash and jump kick your way through the game although there might be a couple areas in the factory you need to throw a kunai to activate a bomb to progress
Also remember that you can block projectiles and still move while blocking

The game has finite shurikens, so of course it's possible. He's right about it changing the dynamic of the game though, especially for boss fights.

I like the game just as much as you do, I think. If we can agree that controls aren't as responsive as in, say, SMW or SMB3, i.e. clunky only comparatively speaking, then we're of the same opinion.

In any case, I don't consider Castlevania or Mega Man 2 clunky, but I think that Shinobi 3 doesn't control as well as these games, let alone extremely fluid ones like SMB, even though it's by no means outright bad.
