It's by far the best Smash Bros game, one of the best games ever made, and the most entertaining "e-sport" that exists imo. It's definitely not perfect though. If it was perfect, every character would be relatively balanced and viable. Instead, Fox/Falco rule the game and there are only about 8 characters that can be considered viable at the top level. A perfect version of Melee would be a Melee where Kirby, Bowser, Game & Watch, etc are all completely viable characters.

I don't disagree that more variety is nice but one of the joys of melee is seeing low-tier heroes dominate local scenes and stuff like that, if every character was 'viable' then you'd lose some of the magic of seeing great players overcome huge uphill battles. Also the fact that there are only 8 good characters makes the matchups that do exist incredibly deep.

PM is almost perfect because the character balance is pretty good, but the movement isn't as fast or as satisfying as Melee. The recoveries for most characters are too good as well, so the off-stage game that Melee perfected is not as good. I want a PM + Melee hybrid. Melee speed and weight, PM character viability.
