The DS is great. It managed to sell 150~ million units by being almost completely strictly a game console, unlike the PS2. It introduced touch screens to consumers, and made dual screens (or monitors, for PC master race) a thing.

the ds was terrible
the games were great though
>>338305623
What part of it was terrible?
>>338306081
The hardware was pretty lousy compared to the PSP at the same time. But it did have a spectacular library. Lot of shit too
>>338305162
>shittier library than GBA
Haha oh wow, that's delusional

Objectively false in every possible way, and it was still backwards compatible.

Amiibo's literally came out 2 years ago.
>>338306309
Yeah, but remember they had to work on running two screens, a touch screen, and keep the cost low. The GBA also had pretty lousy hardware.
>>338306309
It had what it needed. It could have been a bit better designed, but that was fixed with DS lite, which had the problem with the cracking hinges.
There was nothing about the hardware that was really wrong. A really minor problem was that you had to turn off the console to exit the settings, but who cares.
PSP was the console that did wrong. Handhelds are not supposed to be that powerful, and the screen was too advanced too. It broke the handheld rules, DS was a perfect handheld in that regard.
Also, DS had two screens and very importantly, a touchscreen, which was a huge innovation that really took it to the next level.

It was shit, m8.
>>338306309
It was good since it allowed smaller devs to make games which could compete with the big names without spending a fortune
>>338307114
The PSP shouldn't have used discs either, they aren't portable and the disc drive can break more easily.
you can tell the bad taste ds detractors are in full force when they keep calling the gba library awful
I like its library, but I don't like the device itself. But that's the same deal with almost every handheld.
>>338307196
That "gimmicky trash" allowed for fantastic, unique games like Trauma Center
>>338307196
The two screens with touch was a real gameplay improvement, not gimmicky trash. It was revolutionary.
It didn't have that many GBA sequels, and that's not the only thing that matters, it had many good games.
The 3D graphics were far better than PS1, and actually, they look really good.
The lack of Zelda and Metroid can be a problem for fans, but like I said it had many great games.
>>338307423
Yeah, discs was a genuinely bad design choice. But in terms of what you should expect from a handheld, PSP was too good, it went too far. DS shouldn't be criticized for being worse than the competition when the competition is surprisingly good.
