Anyone expecting anything more than a solid narrative FPS with light puzzle elements and a slightly innovative gimmick will be disappointed, but people who actually played half-life and half-life 2 aren't expecting anymore. Reddit drones who think of it as some legendary game will inevitably be disappointed. It's coming out 2017/2018. A cinematic trailer for half-life 3 will be shown this year at E3. An FPS using the Source 2 engine will be released an hour after the E3 reveal showing off the Source 2 line-up which will have footage of a new Day of Defeat, a new Team Fortress, a new Portal, a new Left 4 Dead, and potentially an update for Global Offensive bringing it over to the source 2 engine, alongside a new franchise, and games developed by other companies on the engine.

Why aren't valve just selling the rights to HL3?
Could imagine plenty of publishers would love the title and gaben could make some easy cash.

Throughout 2015-2016 they have been dropping "leaks" with HL3 code inside it.
This year's winter sale had an ARG filled with references.

I think there was a time when FPS games were almost always far future or WW2, there wasn't much in between. It's been funny to see how the trend changed to "modern" warfare then continually escalating "near future". Hilarious how BF just fliped it and rolled way back to the fucking great war.
Would be nice to get some WW2 games again. Relive my old gaming days.
