All this generation has been so far is remasters and uninspired pieces of trash which usually are cash cows rather than real video games.

This generation already looks to be on the way out and we barely have anything decent to come of it.
Smaller teams don't profit from niche titles and new ideas, big teams just jizz out more of the same garbage and "HD" "remasters" of last gen ports are everywhere.

Kero Blaster came out in 2014 as a solid 7/10 platformer from the dude who made Cave Story, got a pretty good update in 2015 that easily bumps it to an 8/10 by adding a hardmode that revamps the whole game and adding bonus levels to NG+.
Plus you play as a frog, which is cool.

Umihara Kawase is an arcadey physics-based platformer that dates back to thr SNES with the unique gimmick of latching on to things with an elastic fishing line. Sayonara is the 3rd mainline entry and it came out in like 2013, and is also the first in the series to come stateside. It is indeed Japanese as fuck but the skill ceiling is incredibly high and the story is nonexistant. Nothing to do but git gud. All 3 mainline games are on Steam but Sayonara and the original are on Vita while 3DS has the initial (and worst) release of Sayonara.
Ys Memories of Celceta shouldn't need much introduction because it's motherfucking Ys. Adol Christin is probably one of /v/'s most beloved characters because he IS adventure, not to mention the protagonist of one of the longest running action RPG series in history. Memories of Celceta is a remake of Ys IV, but story matters less in this seriea than the high speed action. MoC is of the third major gameplay iteration of the series where you work with a party and utilize weapon types to expose enemy weaknesses. It's not the most beloved style in the series but it's still good.
As for Tearaway it worked for me because I played it on Vita and found its gimmicks to be creative, on top of being madsively nostalgic for 3D platformers since that's what I grew up with.

I personally think it's a better entry point as you can tackle levels one by one and have infinite tries while doing so. That said, you can play the classic way. I will say that I've notices that people used to the first 2 games have been a bit thrown by the difference in physics - if Shun feels heavier than FC then Sayonara feels lighter, and doing some tricks like climbing up walls is much easier but tricks like rocket jumps are now about useless.
