Best design for a compact breeder?

Guys, I need help.
Every time I play minecraft or starbound or terraria, I just can't build pretty house.
I end up either carving the base inside a mountain or just build commieblocks with maximum space efficency.
I'm tired of this, fellas.
I want my houses to stop looking like a box or a coffin.
I want them to be pretty.
I guess the fact that I myself live in an 8 story commieblock doesn't help, right?

Just keep on doing this, works for me every time.

Develop a few little tricks to make things look nice like using half slabs or stairs on your frame to add extra dimensions. Don't forget about extra touches like gardens, overhangs and such which can help bring the outside of a home to life too.

creepers are afraid of ocelots, but it's a pain to tame them.
Also a bunch of snow golems does a nice job keeping everything away.
