Yup, it's my favorite shooter in the past few years. I just wish they would release mod tools even though it's never going to happen.

>>
>>338235874
probably not well after the horrific beta. long term sales aren't gonna be probably good either. 3 reasons why
1) DRM. this will probably kill any long term community involvement in the game because the game runs like ass because of devuno and will probably fuck with any future compatibility like all DRM ridden games.
2) the multiplayer sucks fucking ass. no idea why they limited it to two weapons that cant be swapped out. expect any competitive play consisting of maybe one or two loadouts.
3) no modding and snapmap sucks hot ass. nuff said. when you make a sequel to a game that has one of the largest modding communities around and you give us some shitty map maker. kiss your potential playerbase rivaling the source engine good bye.

Fucking mindblowing that this even happened. Granted, it's fucking zenimax but still. The only reason why Doom is still relevant over 20 years later is because of the community and thousands of .wads.

The gameplay is good enough where it could have carried the game another decade with full mod support and tools.

>>
>>338238256

It's always been implied that Satan is basically their god, however Doomguy may have actually already killed him before the demons locked him in the sarcophagus.

So would you guys like to see id take on a new Quake game?

Assuming it has a campaign (strogg setting or setting of the first game, or even possibly both) and that they don't outsource the multiplayer?
>>
>>338241654
Closest we've come is the icon of sin (baphomet) if I remember correctly technically he would be one of the Lord's of hell, but not Satan himself. Then again, it's officially cannon that doom guy has been tearing hell apart for thousands of years in human terms, across multiple dimensions.
Chances are he's probably killed some form of Satan.
>>
>>338242074
On the one hand, the gameplay of Doom 4 gives me a bit of confidence. But there's still something about the idea of a Quake game in 2016 published by Bethesda that worries me.

I'd almost prefer id make new iterations of other, more obscure classic FPS games focusing on single player. They'd have to get the rights to some that I'd want though.
>>
>>338236098
I think the Icon of Sin would be him and if so you already killed him.
>>

>>
>>338242220
My point is that just because it's Hell does not mean that the Christian Satan is in charge of it, the games never take a stand on which mythology of Hell this one is, if it even is one based any specific religion.

For all we know there is no Satan in the DooM Hell

"We weren't happy with the game that was being made," he said of the decision to kill the project. "We decided that it wasn't Doom enough and needed to be thrown out and started over. Some folks left and some faces changed at the studio. Out of that change — which was not easy for those guys to go through — some amazing things happened."

The main issue was that the game didn't feel like Doom ... at all.

"You can probably close your eyes and imagine a 'Call of Doom' or a 'BattleDoom' game, where it starts to feel way too much like: 'Wait, this doesn't feel like Doom, it feels like we're playing some other franchise with a Doom skin on it,'" he said.

"It wasn't fast enough," Hines said, listing all the ways the game went wrong. "The way that the demons worked. The visceralness of the combat. A lot of the stuff that you see with the finishing moves wasn't part of it at all. The combat was more disconnected, you almost found yourself taking cover at times and using things from other FPSes, which might be fine for them, but for Doom it just doesn't feel right."

Total War is one of the highest selling and most popular PC game franchises out there, you absolutely should not be shocked that it is very hyped and selling like crazy. Doom was a practically unknown quantity until it actually came out because everyone expected it to suck like the multiplayer. It will sell steadily well now that people are spreading the word that it is good, but it's not going to top the charts forever because no game does.

Like the halos and cowadoodys for years now? Before that it was brown and gray WWII shooters, and more recently zombie themes.

Yet we played the shit out of Doom clones in the 90s and only got more excited for the next one. Even a game you got in a box of cereal turned out great.

The MP is just not Doom at all, or even Quake for that matter.

But it's not terrible so much as disappointing and forgettable. It plays extremely similar to Halo 5, which is no surprise since they farmed out the MP to the same dev team responsible for that.

It has modern FPS "features" like a loadout system with a 2-weapon limit, XP/level system, perks, and battlefront's hero tokens so one player gets a wish fulfillment trip while everyone else gets bored or frustrated.

You can have some fun with it, but it won't stand the test of time.

i think its cool that all these games are somewhat canon.

is there a series where everything has been canon up until now?

i was thinking of mortal kombat and any of the fighting games, but other than that, what else??

And why would Zenimax want you to still be playing Doom 4 years down the line? Why do you think every other shooter has no modding support? Evil publishers want money, and keeping the tools to make new content away from customers (who would happily make it for free) means that they can charge all day long for trivial shit. They want the monopoly on new content, so they can charge for it. This REALLY hurts consumers. When this crap is accepted, that's how you get vapid yearly cash cow franchises like CoD. That's pure cancer.

If I remember rightly, Doom I, Doom II, and Doom 64 are the canon ones. At the end of Doom 64, or at least between the new Doom and the old one, you apparently got sealed away in a tomb because Hell just couldn't handle you.

Those aren't really bad numbers.

PC games tend to sell a whole lot less then their console counterpart, even for PC franchises.

Witcher 3's sales were like only 20-30% from PC. Consoles are still what carries large titles.
>>
>>338254013
But have you played it
>>
>>338254063
The beginning was shit because they locked some parts that made the game more fun behind the unlockables - 6.5
The artificial difficulty in the last levels was annoying on high difficulty, spawning monsters out of nothing just behind you while being a one hit target for every monster -7.0
Middle part of the game was just right and fun, having maze levels actually was very refreshing after playing "one way tunnel the fps" over and over again in the last 10 years - 8.5

Don't care for the MP - so it was an overall 7,5 - ok for me.
>>
Doom would have already sold twice as that without denuvo and full mod support. As much as i really like the solo and i think it's really worth it the whole package is kinda average all things considered. Multi sucks and snapmap is sooo limited...

There was nothing to corroborate that in-game, it was someone's pre-release headcanon that somehow keeps getting posted

I already bought it fucktard. the thing is you can't expect people to see the same value in a product with mods and one without. So instead of buying people will just wait. Doom is so huge on PC there would already be tons and tons of maps and stuff done (more like the stuff already done is subpar). But right now there is nothing because snapmap sucks. There's no argument to be had about this, it sucks.
>>
>>338240330

The numbers are a proof enough, especially when you see some indie trash selling twice as much.
>>
>>338254280
Witcher 3 banked hard on consoles having just released and having almost no games. And 30% is quite a lot considering that PC stands against BOTH consoles.
Also, PC games have longer shelf life, the number will keep increasing, while on consoles not so much.

No. The "multiple universes" theory is basically fanfiction. The game only mentions two dimensions: Hell and ours (you're said to be the "only flesh and blood who has walked between our world and theirs"

Doom 1, 2 and 64 might all be canon to this continuity in the sense that it's not specified when Doomguy became a demigod. You begin the game in this as a highly experienced demon killing machine, and you're basically heralded as the grim reaper of Hell from all your previous incursions

It's gotta say it somewhere, I even keep seeing it on Youtube videos and shit. No way this many people have been just coming up with that idea for no reason.
>>
>>338254532
>Being the "Doom Slayer" he is of course not merely human but the nature of his superhumanity are explained in the hell chapters with the betrayer of the Night Sentinels, the armor, etc.
Said by a Demon with a totally unbiased and accurate recall of history, of course.

Meanwhile, the UAC literally finds him in modern armor with 21st century english written on it, and stone tablets corroborating the idea that he's been to hell more than a few times. Most damning, in Hayden's office you even find a pic of classic Doomguy fighting classic Barons
>>
>>338236172
Denuvo doesn't mean no mods, if that's what you're implying.
>>
>>338256032

3 playthroughs here, two of which 100%'d. It's not stated ANYWHERE. When the plot was being leaked someone came up with that idea (which was funny as fuck tbqh and I almost wish it was true) but the youtubers you watch are just copy-pasting it without actually seeing how things played out in the full game

>>338256198
>Meanwhile, the UAC literally finds him in modern armor with 21st century english written on it

The armor was obviously tampered with by the UAC - VEGA can interface with your visor, Hayden can know what you're doing, etc. You can even see it looks more organic (i.e. demonic) under the green plating, which is probably a modern addition

Damn shame, if it were true that would've made Doom have probably the most ridiculous canon I've ever heard of, and not in a bad way at all.

What's the highest difficulty you've completed, by the way? I just beat it on Ultra Violence and I'm thinking of going on a Nightmare run, is it a big leap in difficulty or just slight? Because some parts on Ultra Violence actually gave me some trouble, not gonna lie.

Yes it does. JC3MP developers had to beg avalanche for a denuvo-less build just to start and only got it because JC2MP was wildly popular. I'm pretty sure id won't do the same for every noname modder.

Hayden wants to keep the hell portal open to rebuild what has lost (argent extraction) in stopping Olivia and her cult
>>
>>338256715
>Did you even play the game?
Yes, 22 hours and counting.

>Why do you think he calls you via comms AS SOON as you put it on?
He has a way of detecting the suit's power state, that much is known. But what I don't get is that if it was tampered with, there's no evidence of that happening in game. There's no alerts saying "foreign software/hardware detected", no animations of Doomguy feeling uncomfortable with his suit, no nothing.

Meanwhile there's plenty of nods to earlier games, including the scrolls mentioned in my previous posts. You really think they'd set all those things up only to put it on Doomguy being an ancient alien?
>>
>>338257025
I actually think it says in the codexes regarding his armor that it simply couldn't be tampered with nor would it operate at all without Doomguy being inside of it, so I highly doubt his armor was modified by the UAC.
>>
>>338257718

Then how can VEGA interface with it? Even add challenges that further unlock latent functionality
>>
>>338257797
I would guess that Doomguy's suit is just exceptional. It has clearly been powered up throughout the eons he spent fighting hell before he was bound to the tomb, maybe AI interfacing is just something that is an innate feature in his armor when he got it before he spent all that time in hell.

Either way, it's not regular armor, and the codexes explain that much about it.
>>
>>338257990

The UAC obviously has a means to limit its functionality and keep tabs on Doomguy. The guy was asking "So why was it in the same room Doomguy was in, completely untouched? It was just sitting there with no tools around it or anything" - It's obvious you were meant to wake up and wear it, it's even turned directly towards you. And soon after Ultron begins his mea culpa about what happened in the Mars colony

You were obviously his trump card in case of a demonic invasions, and you could be controlled in some way, hence the ending
>>
>>338255689
Nope. AAA game development is extremely bloated. Just look at how much Tomb Raider 2014 had to sell to even turn a profit, or Dead Space 3.

And now consider that Denuvo is not free. You are going to pay a premium for that kind of protection.
>>
>>338258240
What you're saying may be possible, but I believe that if Hayden really did have a means of limiting Doomguy's abilities then he would have done something about when Doomguy was destroying the accumulators and later on the Argent Tower.

I personally think that Hayden found you on his own interests because he suspected that some form of outbreak from Hell would occur, which would explain as to why everything is already set up for you when you wake up at the exact moment of the outbreak, and also as to why he immediately tries to communicate with Doomguy as soon as he dons the armor. I don't think Hayden has any influence on you or your armor physically, but is merely using the fact that you exist to his advantage to securely extract Argent energy. Also, Hayden definitely well could have other means of keeping tabs on Doomguy rather than just interfering with something in his suit, he's an extremely intelligent man in a robot body.
