Not only do I think TWEWY is the best game in the DS, but it's one of the best games to every come out in that generation.
There was never a game that was as fresh and original as TWEWY, even to this day there's no game that plays like it. The music and the presentation both oozed style and worked together perfectly, The only thing you can possibly improve on is the narrative, but even then I think it's flawed in all the right ways.
This game is fucking amazing, and it's a little sad that we may never see game quite like it ever again

You know, I'm not even mad that they did it. I'm mad that they wasted it on an iOS re-release. Had they announced TWEWY 2 it would've been one of the greatest reveals I got to personally experience in my life. The camaraderie amongst the fanbase felt in that lead-in week was unreal and those times were wonderful, but they fucked the landing so hard.

The first half of the narrative wasn't the best. It kicks in gears afterwards though, the second half is when it starts unraveling all of its smoke and mirrors. It's also when Neku grows up a bit, remember it's a coming of age story, if the characters in the beginning aren't great, it's because they haven't grown yet.

Neku is teenage angst incarnate for the first third of the game but he's more about the journey than the destination when it comes to justifying his character. Personally I've always been a bit asocial so as overwrought as it can be his early character doesn't bother me but he definitely shapes his shit up over the course of the game. If anything's a barrier of entry in my opinion its the battles; the game does a lot to ease the player into its mechanics but at the end of the day you're still controlling two battles and you do have to LEARN how to manage the flow between the screens. That shit just does not click in 5 minutes.

Exactly this. I was 15/16 when this game came out, and I was square in the middle of the "I hate everyone, just leave me alone" edgy teenager phase. TWEWY helped me stop being such an unrelenting faggot.
I also liked that Shiki and Beat are relatable to kids the same age but in different demographics than Neku. All three of them felt like actual teenagers who grew over the course of the journey.

I understand the skill floor of twewy, but honestly they did everything they could to make it as accessible as possible. Difficulty could be adjusted at anytime so you can take your time on easy mode to really learn the ropes then crank it up once you're comfortable. The green puck is a great mechanic, because it allows you, if you want, to just focus on one screen at a time by just following the puck.
Not to mention you can get away with just spamming one direction for the upper screen.

Coincidentally I think it's when you've learned to manage the puck that you've began to sincerely master its mechanics. The dialogue and music really lean heavily into it but the battles really are all about maintaining a flow, and being rewarded with combo finishers at 5x damage for bouncing back and forth between the characters skillfully.
