Unfortunatley it's kind of broken against the computer. You can win every fight by invading your opponent's tank and keeping them busy while your AI teammates launch projectiles. I would like to play with actual humans but didn't know anyone else who owned the game.

Holy shit. I remember this game. Being able to fire your crew at the enemy ship was so fun. The AI couldve been better but fuck man, this game was classic.
The scythe ammo was so OP though. I farmed so many of those from that one boss and steamrolled the game. Haha.

I always used King Slime as well. I love it in DQ and I loved it in Rocket Slime even more. Unfortunately I can't just go get a cart since it was my cousins game and he lent it to me for a year.

I liked how the game had variety too, though. Some of the bosses werent tank fights but over the top fights if I recall correctly. Also the puzzles were fun too. It had nice, varying pacing too. Sometimes youd be going a million miles an hour on a cart thing and the next youd be stacking things on your head to open a door. The game was really well designed looking back on it.
