/v/, what are some great violent and gory games?
I want to play games that have excessive amounts of blood and gore. Things in the vein of Brutal Doom and Killing Floor 2. Also found the dismemberment in CoD WaW pretty awesome (last CoD I played)
Fast games with tonnes of blood and gore thread
Also Devil Daggers, isn't gory but has the kind of gameplay I'm in the mood for

Wasn't that fond of the Postal games, they were fun for a while but just seemed really gimmicky in their violence.
Always meant to play Soldier of Fortune series, forgot they existed and never did.
I own SS 3 but haven't played it yet, good shout, thanks

Postal 2 really upped the violence factor with the patch that added AW gore and ED weapons to the main game. It still is pretty campy, of course.
Also The Punisher TPS is pretty good. Not full on ultra violence and it's a PS2 game originally so no shiny grafics but it's still nice.
I'm hoping with the success of the new Doom other devs strive to make their games more and more violent.
Violence never made the mainstream mass market the way it should have, although the Gears of War games had their times for a while

Are you saying Doom "ported to everything with a processor" "more copies sold than Windows 95" wasn't mainstream?
Mother russia bleeds will probably be right up your alley.

Individual games that are gory have been mainstream many times, but I mean gore as a theme hasn't been so popular by itself in the same way that class based shooters, perks, big explosions setpieces and other tropes we've seen constantly reused in all the big games in the past decade or so
Manhunt
Ninja Gaiden series, gears of war series, god of war series, metal gear solid rising, left for dead series, and that's all I got off the top of my head.
Killing Floor 1 and 2
