What do you mean? On PC, it's one of the best looking open world games in existence. Digital Foundry also seem to consider it a good game on its own merits.

I suspect the shitty performance on consoles is a huge factor in a lot of gameplay complaints about poor gunplay and strange vehicle handling.

This is the top recommended review on Steam right now.

http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198035820408/recommended/223100/

Looks as though the tide is turning in the game's favor, at least on PC. I wonder whether the game will manage to become a sleeper hit on PC.

>>338153515
No idea. People are posting screenshots on Steam without saying what settings are being used. I'm pretty sure CryEngine uses a mix of MSAA and SMAA post-processing techniques.

Gonna blame this one on whoever is in charge of marketing this game as well.

>>
>>338154741
>>game fucking FREEZES on checkpoints for 5 seconds
It's a side effect of having to save the state of every single object in the entire world. The game is an open world. Looking at the files, it has has a single map. I'm honestly not sure how such a problem could be fixed. It's a direct side effect of making an open world game of this type.

I suppose they could redo the save system and remove auto save, but that would upset casuals.

Also, the faster your HDD, the shorter the save pauses.

Also, Half Life 2 pauses to load every time you turn a corner, and it got GOTY eternally.
>>
>>338154817
I'm shocked that they don't showcase the game's CryEngine powered visuals. Give us some close ups of characters talking. Let us see the stubble, the soft gleam of their skin.

The marketing isn't targeting the PC market properly.

People should have taken a hint when Ubisoft admitted they were "disappointed" with 8th gen console performance.

It's no coincidence that so many PS4/XBO games have performance issues. The CPUs are shit. Complete shit. They can flash their linear TPS and linear FPS games around all they want. The moment you throw an open world at them, they start falling apart.

GTA V is a really good looking game, but it looks like a joke on consoles compared to PC.

On consoles, Dying Light has detail LOD set below the minimum the PC version offers.

The marketing team has done a poor job teaching players about the game's new alternate history backstory which is completely unrelated to the first Homefront.

https://history.homefront-game.com/

They even made a nice little website with a complete timeline covering all the important historical events. In this history, Korea invents personal computing and North and South sign a peace treaty. The Americans fall into destitution, and the Koreans, after aiding them, decide they're not going to leave.

Cue "invasion".

Open world meme needs to die already

It always turns into repetitive shit a third into the game once you realize they didn't flesh out enough unique content to last the entire way

They always seem like a great idea until you notice that side mission repeating itself one too many times. Or that the world is gorgeous but ultimately empty of anything to do.

Xenoblade-X looked like shit but atleast they bothered to litter it with reasons to check out every inch of the map.

Homefront 2 was originally a linear game just like Crysis 2 and Crysis 3. The lead developer decided to ask for permission to make it open world, and Crytek management said okay.

Gee, maybe if gamers hadn't spent 2011-2013 bitching about how Crysis had turned to shit because "it's literally Call of Duty now"?

It's fucked if you do, fucked if you don't. Remove the open world, people accuse you of ripping off Call of Duty. Go open world, they accuse you of ripping off Far Cry 3.

Not according to Steam reviews. A lot of people are running at 60fps just fine, or 45-60fps-ish. And of course the people with better GPUs are getting 100fps+

But Homefront: The Revolution chugs a bit and has some AI bugs, and you occasionally clip through the floor, and the game is "WORST GAME I HAVE EVER PLAYED, WATCH MY VIDEO, GIVE ME CLICKS! HEY, LET'S MOCK THE DEVELOPERS FOR PROMISING TO MAKE SINGLEPLAYER DLC!"

i only had 3 bugs/glitches in AC Unity. I counted because of all the backlash and bitching.

They promised a year of singleplayer DLC as part of the season pass. So hopefully they do put effort into patching the game.

I am guessing that Dambuster and Deep Silver are already moving on to their next game, which will hopefully be a smash hit, and they're assigning a small sub-team to keep working on Homefront.

Frame pacing is how long it takes each frame to render.

0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-

becomes

00-0-0-000-0-0----

The number of FPS is the same, but the actual rate at which they are put onscreen fluctuates. It makes games appear jerky even though they seem okay on the FPS counter.

The game runs fine on PC. It runs like a typical PC CryEngine game. There is no performance crisis on PC. There are some random people with performance issues, or people who refuse to play on anything but Ultra and whine, but for the most part, things are fine.

Loading stutter is almost unavoidable on PC. There is no way for a developer to know at any time what part of the long-ass trip that resources undertake when getting loaded from disk that could bottleneck everything.
It can be workarounded with predictive preloading, but especially in an open world game that can't be perfected.

From steam reviews

Cons:
1. FPS Drops. By "drops," I don't mean "small" ones either. Depending on locaiton near a window, where lighting coming through and shadows can be factored in heavily, i've seen FPs drops from 80 to literally 2.5. NO, that is not a "type-o," I didn't mean "25," I literally mean "2.5." I have quite a few games, and some more "taxing" to my system, CPU, and GPU wise, and some less. I run all of my games at MAX settings, especially when testing to see where issues may lie, and then alter settings, such as the obvious first like shadows, etc, and work my way through. It seems that reducing shadows DID help, but only VERY minimally, and not enough to make me think the game does NOt need optimized MUCH MORE. MUCH...MUCH MORE!

>Pc Specs:

>It's basically all of Asia; the norks and south united and started conquering all of their enighbors until taking out big bad china themselves if I recall.
No. There is no invasion. There is no war. A Korea invents personal computers in the 1970's, leading to massive economic growth, and the North and South sign a peace treaty in the 90's.

The storyline bears no resemblance to the original Homefront. It's based on an America that WANTED to be "invaded". That rioted when the American government wouldn't allow the Koreans to bring food and aid and employment into America.

This is the downside of using the Homefront IP and scrapping the plot completely. Too many people have a reasonable understanding of the old storyline, for better or worse.

tons of open world games have autosaves and don't stutter like that

Look at Saint's Row 4 or something. And no I don't care if there's less shit lying around in that, then that just means you design your game around less shit lying around because that is the technical limitations of the hardware even in 2016

There's actually a very interesting trend of people with the 700 series cards running the game far better than people with the 900 series cards. It could very well be a driver issue. Nvidia released drivers a few days ago, and they didn't even bother adding a working SLI profile.

I think there's a clear problem with Crytek being the only dev with the expertise to put out a game that runs well on cryengine. Probably they know all the little undocumented quirks and ways to do things to avoid bottlenecks that devs just picking up the engine don't.

PCs don't have gens. When people say, "looks last gen", they're supposed to be referring to a game from a console gen.

Like Skyrim = 7th gen.
Sonic Adventure = 6th gen.
Donkey Kong 64 = 5th gen.

I would wait for professional analysis, because people on the internet are fuckwits when it comes to games being "optimised". Durante (the guy who fixed Dark Souls and Deadly Premonition for PC) hates the current trend of labelling games "poorly optimised" because they won't run on Ultra.

Ever stopped to think that maybe /v/ likes FEAR for a reason? Something it did wrong despite the things it did right?

The most common mentioned feature of FEAR was the AI talking to each other and coordinating maneuvers like flanking and supressive fire.

The most common mentioned feature of Bloodborn is teh setting and artstyle.

Both games fucked up the framepacing but each did something worthwhile to us.

>/v/ standards
Normally I liberally insult people for no reason, but today I'm in a good mood.

There's no "/v/ standards". You're imagining a consensus in a board populated with thousands of diferent individuals each with their own past/experiences/preferences.

There isn't a "/v/ way" of doing things.
People who believe such a thing exists do it because they want to fit in, to feel like the are a part of something bigger than themselves.

This board, and all other boards are amazing precisely because such a thing does not occur.
The beauty of anonymity and imageboards is precisely the lack of a consensus or a standard.
It is the ever changing and revolving pool of ideas that populate it.
Only one thing is constant in imageboards: the change.

To give you a more down to earth example: there's a guy posting around that not only bought Plumbers don't Wear ties back in the day, he also defends the game. Even when 99.9% of the userbase "agree" it's shit.
But the existence of such an anon allows other people to talk about that terrible game. Fosters conversations, discussions, new breeds and ideas.

If you want a site that actively enforces a "standard" and condemns itself to an ideologic stagnation by stiffling discussion and promoting intelectual in-breeding, go to Reddit.
I'm not telling you this as an insult as it is often said around here.

I mean that you can pop up open that site and watch the very anthithesis of imageboards. Popular things are brought into the light, unpopular one's are buried. The same ideas and opinions are recycled in a revolting pattern over the years and anything new, be it bad or good is instantly throw out. Not because of it's inherent value (or lack of) but simply for commiting the atrocity of being diferent than what is accepted as "The Reddit Standard".
