They did a gradual degradation of everything in that game. The squad started out all professional saying 'tango down' and stuff, but by the end they were screaming 'die fucker!'

The gameplay was run of the mill but by got the atmosphere, attention to detail and art direction in Spec Ops The Line was 10/10

A very overlooked aspect of the game to be sure when people call item description delivered narrative the pinnacle of videogame storytelling.

Only others that come to mind are PoP: Sands of Time and Max Payne 3, kinda.

The soundtrack choice was excellent as well, best Vietnam War game ever to be set outside of Vietnam.

I was cringing the whole time at the maturity of this game.
>>
>>338146226

Was it too mature for you?
>>
>>338146226

The immaturity of the characters is part of the point, anon.
>>
>>338146317
It made me feel like Sessler himself whispered sweet nothings about Joseph Conrad's time compared to current year in my ear.

I didn't expect it to be so challenged.

Neato.
>>
>>338140501
This is your fault. None of this would have happened if you'd just stopped!

>remember our mission: locate survivors, and leave the city immediately. Radio command from outside the storm wall. They send in the cavalry, we go home.

But on you marched. And for what?

>I never meant to hurt anybody...

Nobody ever does, Walker.

Same with his commands.
>Target the sniper on the roof!
>I WANT HIM DEAD!

Still one of my favorite scenes. Is the game perfect? No, but the soundtrack, the pacing, the attention to detail and the art direction are fucking incredible.
>>
good setting
good story
good music
good voice aciting
good attention to detail

it's a shame the gameplay is at best unremarkable
>>
>>338140501
why didn't Adams and Lugo relieve Walker from command when they saw this crazy shit he was pulling
>>
>>338147139
People disregarding the responsibility they hold is one of the core concepts of the story I suppose.
>>
>>338147139
They were all losing their minds. Not to say there weren't moments that after the reveal don't make much sense.
>>
>>338147139

By the time Walker started having his dementia, Lugo and Adams had already pledged to follow him into the depths of madness.
>>
>>338147259
Good point, actually. By keeping Walker in command they could defer some of their own responsibility.
>>
hard to take this game seriously when the choices make as about as much a difference or impact as a telltale walking dead game, if they even let you make a choice in the first place (white phosphorous bullshit)
>>
>>338147864
Not the point of the game
>>
>>338147864
Isn't the illusion of choice one of the themes of the game anyway? Walker gives himself decisions to make if only to convince himself that he still has control and the whole situation isn't totally fucked.

I do find it interesting that people blame the game for forcing their hand in this while Walker blames Konrad.

They trusted him and believed he would see them through it. From their demeanor, they were pretty good friends and justfound themselves degrading in the shitty situation.
>>
>>338146986
I played through the game twice: first for the story, and then a second time to move slower and take in the atmosphere, and observe the team's descent.
There's so much work put beyond just the immediate environment, like the graffiti elements, Intel descriptions, and the scenery is just beautiful. I'd totally recommend a second playthrough just for that.
>>
>>338148956
Shit like the dead tree, Konrad posters and posing statues really show a level of detail put into this game's environment.

Some of the best music in gaming . Atmospheric as hell, and very fitting. Gameplay was mediocre but the overall experience was absolutely fucking fantastic. There is a one fatal flaw though, they really should have given the player the choice to turn back , at any time. Make it like a hidden objective, so its never explicity displayed on your HUD (besides the first cutscene). They should have allowed the player to turn back towards the desert before the White Phosphorus scene. For the WP scene, they should have allowed, again, a hidden objective , a way to perhaps wait till night time and attack without WP. If the player still chooses to take the most direct approach (because they fail to work hard enough to find the alternate approach), then you go ahead and carry on with the rest of the story like it did in the game. This way the message has a deeper impact, imo
>>
>>338148956
I also like how even the player starts separating themselves from what Walker is doing, starting with the white phosphorous scene. Getting more aggressive, losing his posture, getting visibly different with half of his face burned. I found myself saying I no longer was controlling this guy.

>/v/ likes a game with the only value being the cinematic presentation of its writing on top of the most generic gameplay ever
What happened?
>>
>>338149527
Like I said here >>338148392
I prefer this shift of blame from the player to the game, mirroring Walker's behavior, imo.
That being said, the whole
>This wouldn't have happened if you had just stopped
That would've had more impact with the whole hidden objective you mentioned. Would be interesting discussing the story with people that just stopped and those that kept on marching.

>>338149884

>>338140501
I liked it. It was flawed, but presented well enough and at least it tried something daring/new
>>
>>338149995
But this shift of blame to the player is completely moot because a secondary option to deal with the situation is never provided. And don't bring up the 'should have stopped playing the game' bs, that is fucking retarded, and something the fucking devs spun up to sound smarter than they really are. At the end of the day its a product I paid for. An experience, if you will. Lack of said experience for the sake of morality does not justify poor planning and plot holes the size of titanic
>>
>>338150035
MGS had enjoyable, innovative and detailed (if flawed) gameplay though. Don't get me wrong I prefer SOTL over MGS because stealth games do not interest me and SOTLS writing is great while MGS is all over the place but of the two it easily has the better gameplay.
>>
>>338150520
I agree the stop playing the game is a stupid argument. I get that the game blames you for something it forced on the player, but what if that was the developers intention?
I do agree that it could've been better thought out though.
>>
>>338140501
One of the most well written video games in my opinion. Emotionally draining and brilliant storyline

Did anyone actually feel like a hero while playing this game?
