I don;t get why Doom 3 gets so much hate. I assume its just because of the name cause it looks more like an early Deadspace than Doom, which is perfectly fine for the time, and is still good to play today.

Because the Doom 3 hype was real in 2003-2004 and it wasn't a bad game at all. It was a modern shooter with Doom enemies and elements, and it was a technical marvel at the time.
Also in 2004 FPS hadn't become complete shit like it is today so Doom 3 didn't have to pander using elements perceived as retro. I like the new Doom but it only exists because modern shooters are so bad, this wasn't the case when Doom 3 came out.

I didn't like it because it was far too dark. It also had too many scripted moments with jump scares and the environments were too small/narrow. I wanted a full blown shooter. Not a horror game.

It didn't have a cinematic story at all aside a short movie being played before each boss emerged and the opening where the base is hit by the possession wave which was fucking awesome and is still one of the best openings to an action/tension game to this date. To get what all the story is about you needed to collect PDA's of the deceased personnel and it was completely optional. Doom 3 had a top tier atmosphere mostly because you got to see what the base looked like with people all over the place, going about their business and then, mere moments later it was all gone, life frozen in its tracks and then perverted by the powers of hell.
