Why is this game design so ubiquitous, despite being the least evolving and most retard-looking way to play a video game conceivable?
>can't see character
>gimped / retarded environmental interaction
>garbage platforming
>nauseating after 30 minutes
>no evasions / rolling / cover
>zoomed in / 'toilet roll over eye sockets' / no peripheral vision = "muh realism"
>disembodied hands / floating weapon view = no character affinity
>all games all boil down to target practice -- aiming reticle + weapon
>zer0 genre innovation since inception
>aesthetics redundant, as everything is for others to see
>promotes lazy / non-existent animation programming (see: most TP mods / hacks for an FP games)
>most casual genre out there -- played one, played them all

The REs have gotten steadily worse with each iteration, yet still shame most other franchises in sales. Dark Souls has some of the most clunky, broken gameplay for the genre, zero narrative and also gets worse with each sequel... yet it's a cult hit. Gears of Bore is a linear repetition fest, yet is a flagship IP...
What do these games have in common and if they were FP/FPSs, do you think they would sell on merit?
