I've never finished Dark Souls 2. Thinking about starting it up again and beating it before I buy DS3, what's a good PvE build that circumvents the bullshit mobs in the game?

Sorcery or hexes got me through just fine. Mobs never gave me any hassle as long as I managed to get some distance.
Also chaos rapier seems to cut through most enemies but you cannot get it until the area before earthen peak which I cant remember the name of

My first playthrough was with claymore family weapons, mostly bastard sword and never really had any problems with mobs. 1h moveset is great for multiple mobs and 2h for cramped corners or cases where you need more dmg.
