While I enjoyed mp3's shooting, the levels just didn't do it for me. The constant cutscene interuptions made the entire thing feel choppy and killed the flow. In mp1 and mp2 I felt like I was actually in a sprawling location instead of just a bunch of connected shooting galleries.

Max Payne 3 had one big problem mechanics-wise: only 2 differents guns or one rifle.

Max Payne 3 has some of THE BEST shooting in any video game. It is realistic, visually satisfying, bullets are physical flying projectiles. The Euphoria Engine is, to this day, the best way I've seen a video game simulate how people react to a multitude of things.
Say what you want about the cut-scenes, or how the action gets 'broken up'.. from a first play-through standpoint MP3 was probably one of my most satisfying vidya experiences.

The biggest issue with 3 is that Rockstar still has no idea how to tell a story, its still just a mess of meandering, pointless, slog of a story. Their solution to cutscenes is to just have characers exposit while you walk and take a breather, or to replace quiet time with excessive cutscenes of Max opening a door then walking through it, instead of just letting you hit a button then walk over. It makes replaying it a slog, and aggravating when the gunplay is just so good but the story just keeps walking in and interrupting the game groove. Thats why the best levels just step away and let you play the fucking great gunplay.
