Sonic 3's sprite was a bit different from 1/CD's and 2's(these 2 all used the same sprite only Sonic 2's was a tiny bit taller and had a different shade of blue)
Sonic 3's sprite had smaller irises,more rounded spikes etc.
But in any case Sonic 3's sprite still looks like Classic Sonic and imo it's the sprite with the most personality out of all of them

The shoes look much better and don't look like pointy elf shoes.
More accurate proportions. Has a mouth. Has a better angle of Sonic and doesn't look like a cutout.
Only thing I prefer about 1/2's is that it's more iconic. It's usually the sprite I think of when I think Sonic.

I always hated the sprites that made his legs into swirly things too. Every fucking hack and fangame uses them.
There's a reason Sega dropped it from Sonic 2. Because it makes no fucking sense for his legs to start swirling. Sonic's sprite's run cycle is actually pretty realistic, it just creates the illusion of swirly feet.
I always thought SnK3 shit on what Super Sonic is supposed to look like. Sonic 2 had the best compromise between cartoony and badass.
