Design by committee won. It wasn't non existent then. Won't argue that case at all. It definitely became more prevalent though. The industry just got bigger over time and the people involved got more efficient at the business end of it all.

Good games still happen. The landscape can look pretty barren at times but shit like Dark Souls and even NuDoom to some extent keep my hopes up a little.

Hey, I have this issue. The cover is shiny golden, it's neat.

The Link's Awakening section really didn't help at all. There's a small mention of the monkey before Kanalet Castle but no indication on how to get his bananas.

Games are still good, you just grew up. Sorry you can't enjoy everything under the sun nowadays. There are a shitton of games that appeal to nostalgia so I don't know what you're complaining about.

I think it's because the market got too big. Games are fueled by hype marketing, nostalgia pandering, and additional costs of dlc. Thanks to internet access, games can be released before being finalized, or even before they are near completion (Hitman). Back in the 80's/90's gaming was still recuperating from a big market crash, thus it wasn't very popular and devs really had to put in the work to make sure their games hit the sweet spot to see any profit. The market was so much smaller, this is why we see consoles and titles selling lower numbers than today, but still being more profitable than they are now. The market just needs to scale down. A LOT.

Smartphone gamers being in charge of future AAA development is a scary idea, although I'd imagine that most of them are too dumb to even get a job within the industry in the first place considering they're raised up on garbage that insults your intelligence.

>>
>>338048537
There are games that come out that are objectively BETTER than most games were during the 80s and 90s, but games are also "hip" now, so we're seeing the Hollywood culture more and more in the industry because it can actually make enough money for the wrong people to have an interest in it.
>>
>>338052071
>I couldn't care less about what some idiots in the net think about me

Why are you still here then?
>>
>>338052192
There is no "answer" because the topic is based from a subjective standpoint in the first place.

Games may seem blander to you now, but that is just your opinion.

>>338052326
To talk about nostalgia and how everything sucks, maybe?
Or maybe cause I actually play videogames, unlike all of you.

You can go back and play the old games. And you aren't forced to play modern AAA games. Play some small or medium sized games, which tend to be better.
>>
>>338053121
>the epic indie meme
>>
>>338052767
Because I would rather shit on this one, since we have this exact same thread like 5 times per day.

A shared opinion means nothing. It was a shared and common opinion that video games cause violence. Now it's a common and shared opinion that they make you racist woman haters or whatever. Falling back on Ad Popullum doesn't validate your opinion.

I don't have much love for modern games either, but I'm not so retarded and blind to think the 80s or 90s were any better. Fuck, just download a rom collection for any system and play each game. I wonder how many of these games you would actually consider good? or at least decent?
You can harp on modern games being bland all you want, after you played the 20th Pacman/Mario/Breakout clone on the NES.

maybe 15 years ago, but not now. just look on ebay, it'll take a while, but you will get one for a decent price. my friend got a Duo for $250 2 months ago.

last time i saw a NG was in 2009 on craigslist. dude wanted $250 for the system, 2 sticks and 5 games. i couldn't buy it because of stupid shit eating my money.

>There was a large amount of trash in the 80s and 90s as well.

No one ever says there wasn't. But the trash today is more disappointing than the trash back then because the trash today is usually made by the biggest names with the biggest budgets; people used to make the best games. Capcom, Nintendo and Konami used to be names to get excited for, not dread. The hits back then are also more significant because so many genres existed and so many new things came to be; it was a time of discovery and exploration, which is impossible in today's homogenized environment. Gaming is too big for that now, so that will never happen again because too much risk is involved.
There are people out there who like The Order 1886, Watch Dogs, Destiny and all the other mediocre drivel on store shelves today, but history isn't so forgiving. These things will eventually vanish for being the forgettable things they are. The Super Metroids are over; the kinds of games that can reverberate through history are gone. The only games that came out this entire gen so far gen that might be mentioned again 10 or 20 years from now, fondly, are BloodBorne, Shovel Knight and sadly Undertale.

Expectations that come with the times. As tech has advanced, people expect to see games advance with it. Unfortunately this impedes creativity and forces focus on graphical and other tech improvements. Creativity and originality are dead.

At the same time, videogames are now a well established medium with tons of high quality games filling the libraries over the decades since it came about. There are only so many ideas you can make while existing within the current timeline, and still be original. Most of the good opportunities have been already cashed in on. We're starting to see the copy paste drivel that comes from a dried up well with nothing much left to tap into for that big bang of creativity and originality.
>>
>>338062007
>good luck, you will NEVER find those at yard sales or thrift stores
Have you even been to any of those things? You find crazy shit like that all the time. One time I found a promotional tape that stores use on displays to promote a film; when you watch it, it has the broadcast borders and a time counter. Shit like that you can't find unless you know people. Another time I found a playstation 1, hardly used.
>>
>>338064197
You'd have to be born before 2000 and did gaming in the 90's to understand this, anon.

dude, ive been flea market and yard saleing since 1996, shit like a neo geo or a turbo duo your just not going to find anywhere. if you do its like such a low % that you got it that it won't happen again or it was from a former collector who died.
>>

>>
>>338061515
Sorry but your odds are near zero of finding either of those at a flea market/garage sale, let alone for a reasonable price. I actually found a NeoGeo at a flea market but the seller was a massive scalper, had link's awakening for fucking $50. He dhad a great collection of stuff but his prices were basically double ebay.
>>
>>338065379
You can doubt whatever you want, doesn't change the fact that your blog entry above is the same shit everyone else spouts. You're trying to make objective statements with nothing other than your subjective feelings over the topic as a backup. i.e. "But the trash today is more disappointing than the trash back". Do you really think this strengthens your argument? How do you measure dissapointment?

Like for example, was the new Starfox game for the Wii U more dissapointing than Simpsons Barts Nightmare for the NES?
>>
>>338051838
Holy shit the reddit, if you are 30 die.
>>
>>338066163
The new starfox game is more dissapointing than the Simpsons game because StarFox is supposed to be known for quality games but the simpsons isnt exactally known for that, even today.
>>
>>338048537
Because most developers are in it for cash rather than to produce something fun and new.
So they take the easy route and just update graphics for the easy wow factor.

Just look at Uncharted 4.
>>
>>338066150
>his prices were basically double ebay.

I hate scalper retards

If your shit isnt AT LEAST 20% of the ebay SOLD AVERAGE (SEE: not the Buy Now price) then why the fuck should I buy from you? Even at a 20% discount, you're making exactly as much as you would on ebay, so stop being a fucking kike.
>tfw there are, at minimum, 40 or so resellers within a 20 mile radius where I live
>They post fake yardsale ads of craigslist to prevent people from showing up at real ones
>90% of CL is resellers asking for games
>They show up to people's houses at fucking 6am if they know there is going to be a yardsale

This one faggot keeps putting up "We buy retro video games" signs with a phone number, and I see over 70 of them each day. I should fucking buy stock in that sign company, because he always replaces the signs within 24 hours.

I ought to print out stickers that say "Child Porn" and slap them on the signs so they say "We buy retro Child Porn" with his phone number underneath
Maybe that will stop him.
>>
>>338066629
This confuses me as well, I have no experience selling on ebay so please educate me if I'm wrong. I believe ebay takes around 25% of your sale so the listed ebay prices can't even be trustworthy.
