Just got done with this game and holy shit THIS is how you do an ending. Even though a majority of the game was a slog of clunky gameplay, nonsense writing and potato faces, the end left me with a very positive opinion. Just enough resolution, just enough of a cliffhanger for the sequel.
Any other game that does this?

Oh.
I was hoping the sequel would be a bit more, well, consistently good.
>>
>>338048024
It's good, but the ending's an even bigger cliffhanger.
>>
>>338047638
the ending is the worst of the series and the worst part of the game itself, Alvin's story is a giant plothole
>>
Love this game but the ending wasn't so memorable imo. Why did you love it so much

I have to agree. The combat was clunky and the game was unpolished, but the story drove it.

The ending actually made you feel satisfied and accomplished for completing it.

>>338050026
For me it was simply because it combined the elements of closure of what you have done with the possibility of what you are going to be doing in the next games.
>>
Darksiders 1. Although the game doesn't really need redeeming, the ending is so damn good, it sends you into hype overdrive.

Alvin story is very much closed with a silver sword and ties well into TW3.

>The combat was clunky and the game was unpolished
For a game made with the engine of neverwinter nights 1 I don't think you could have more polish that what they have done. And you didn't even see the release state of the game with huge ass loadings whenever you used a door. God bless CDPR and their (free) enhanced editions.
I liked the combat, but it's really a hit or miss

Please enjoy Witcher 2, it's a whole different beast, especially regarding graphics and combat gameplay, you should like it.

eh?

Because it brought to the forefront your most significant choices, and neatly ties into the central themes of the game. By setting it in a dream world, it was introspective and reflected who the Witcher had become over the course of the game - a pretty significant part of the story, and fighting the mutants/skullmonkey things I thought was representative of a post-witcher world where humanity had been wiped out in favour of mutations. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but otherwise the whole ice age prophecy thing is just kinda dumb on its own.
But you also went super saiyan Geralt, and that's always cool.
>>338050238
But basically what this guy said. The reveal of the assassin being a witcher, implying that there's more schools out there other than Kaehr Mohren, was pretty hype. It wraps it all up in a tone keeping with the books. It was good.

You can't finished this game? Man this was literally the most boring RPG I've ever had to play. Surprised you didn't quit half way

Which was a good game.
>>
>>338052195
Is that actually confirmed, or is it just speculation?
>>
>>338052407
Very much confirmed in Witcher 3 by a book and a letter.
>>
>>338052483
Huh, guess I missed those.
>>
>>338052407
Pretty strongly implied famlam. I just finished the game and came to the conclusion myself.
Tris mentions that a sorcerer strong enough to circumvent the medallion would be able to jump through time, even if by accident.
Combine that with the medallion in Jacques's possession, and his vivid and crazy visions, and it seemed pretty clear to me.
>>338052483
Welp, good to know it wasn't just the nonsense writing which had a tendency of appearing in W1.
>>
>>338052195
yes, that's the point

Alvin goes to the past because he was present during a battle in a village (I don't remember its name)
He was in that village because he was running away from his future self

it just doesn't make sense
>>
>>338052081
I pushed myself through because I wanted the full context for the sequels. It's worth going through. Eventually.
>>
>>338052748
You can start the quest by talking to Novigrad's bookseller, in the main plaza. It's not marked.

Dat letter from a "friend" in the book store in Novigrad.

OP is a pretty cool guy

Also Jacques' dialogue changes depending on what you tell Alvin
>>
>>338050238
I dont know, the combat grew on me towards the middle of the game. It could have been more fleshed out for sure. And honestly, if they let you meditate without using a campfire, the game would've been MUCH more enjoyable too.

But yea, the story was great. I loved going into Witcher 3 and knowing exactly why the hole in Kaer Morhen was there or who the Salamandra were, etc. People who skipped 1 and 2 miss out on so many references and backstory

I really liked how playing W1&2 made various meetings and situations in W3 more meaningful. Really pity that W3 doesn't incorporate save info from W1. I would have so loved to see Werewolf Batman again.
>>
>>338049782
Alvin's story is pretty much retelling of Ciri's story from the books without all the charm and with a dumb ending.
>>
>>338057564
Should have seen my face when I noticed late game that the anti-drowner talisman is really effective to keep those fuckers away.
>>
>>338052384
Not really. Story was shit, most of the gameplay was fucked up by trying to be Diablo and Death just had sort of a boring character.

Isn't Jacques de Aldersberg Alvin?

I haven't played Witcher 1 in over a year, can you refresh my memory on who was chasing Alvin and why? The wiki doesn't say anything about characters Act-by-Act
>>
>>338057920
Your being overdramatic. Yeah, the story was put together worse and showed various seams, probably due to being cut down thanks to THQ's imminent death. The platforming was miles ahead of D1 and personally I preferred Death's dodge themed combat. Overall, I think D1 is the better, more coherent package, but I very well enjoyed my time with D2 and Death's a cool guy. Only reason I could see someone grow to loath D2 is if they try to 100% it and chase down all the collectibles. In that case you deserve the torturous backtrack experience, for your lack of better judgement and self-preservation.
