He created something good. At first it was gratifying and wonderful. He was doing something with his life. He made something people wanted to buy.
Money came in. Couldn't be better, he wasn't even finished and he had so much money now. He was successful, and enjoyed the fruits. He didn't really need minecraft after a while, he had a team now and the money kept flowing in. All working as intended.
Minecraft wasn't his baby anymore, it became his livelihood, a way to make money. He didn't have a vision because he didn't need one anymore. After all, he was making millions this is what success is. He didn't want to start a company, he never wanted to, how burdensome minecraft had become.
Microsoft stepped in, offered to take care of all of that for him. Notch admitted to himself thst he wasn't a craftsman, or an artist. Plus he didn't want to make more games, in fact. He didn't know what he wanted anymore. It all happened so fast after all, seemingly on accident. So he took the money, because it just made so much sense.
Now he is a man with all the money in the world, but now what? What does he have to do? Minecraft kept him busy enough, but he is done making games... idle hands lead him down a slippery slope.
