I am currently running a system with a GTX 650 1GB with 12GB RAM and an i7 4770 @ 3.4 GHz. I'm looking for an upgrade for my GPU, because mine is a total bottleneck for gaming right now. Any tips for what cards would offer the best upgrade for my system? My price range is under 400 bucks. I have been looking into the new 1070 and the AMD R9 380, but I figured the 380 is probably a better option. Anyways, any advice or tips would be much appreciated.

Also, what does /v/ think about the unveiling of the 1080 and 1070 recently?

The benchmarks i have seen of the 1080 have been pretty good. Nowhere near as good as Nvidia claimed but that was marketing.

I would wait for the 1070 benchmarks then decide

Currently independent benchmarks are having the 1070 and 80 easily beat all other cards, regardless of maker.

>buying overpriced gpu cards on release
I hope you enjoy your console ports anon
>>
the pascal cards are obviously the way to go if you are haven't already upgraded in the past couple years. Anyone who tells you otherwise is an idiot or a shill.

Hence why I asked for advice. And I thought the 380 came out last year or something? That's why I figured it would be a better option because its only about $270 online right now, and it has bretty good reviews so at least it will be a more reliable investment.
>>
The only thing you can get for the foreseeable future is a 970 considering your price range.

Hipsters will tell you to get amd but it's a scam

by how much can we expect a price drop on the 970 once the 1070 releases?
>>
>>338023847
how is that not the most logical choice?

how is buying some current amd card based on old architecture or even some current nvidia card more logical? neither of which come anywhere close to the pascal cards that will be out in a month.
You are an idiot.

>>338024395
because of the terrible performance to price ratio, retard.
>>
>>338023164

You've waited this long.

Wait another month for the 1070, see how it performs, and then go from there.

GPU choice matters, but only insofar as getting the best bang for your buck. If the price to power makes sense for you when the 1070 comes out, go for it. If you need to scale it back to the 380, that's an option.

God knows that with a 380 you'll still be more than fine. The difference there is going be some FPS at Ultra settings and you'll be six months more future-proofed, so you won't have to upgrade anything for an extra six months.

how can you possibly think a card that performs slightly better than a titan x for less than $400 is bad price performance ratio?
Are you just mad and poor or something? because it's an amazing deal
>>
My GTX 970 OC can run all games 1080p 144hz Why should i upgrade? 4k 60fps LUL overrated shit. Better make the games more graphical on 1080p than fucking upgrade to 4k. waste of power and money.

The 1080 GTX is overrated shit. I wait till there is a card that can beat my GTX 4 times the performance. all these kiddo think the 1080 is special LUL wait till you see the pascal titan

>>338024786
get this mustard out of here.
>>
>>338024975
same here. Hyped about a card who is only 25% faster than a GTX 980 ti. People really are retarded.
>>
>>338025063
The price for the performance is bretty gud tho
>>
>>338025310
it isn't really
>>
>>338023164
Depend on your budget if you can afford 1070 then go for it else, look for cheap 980Ti on craigslist.

>20 years before 1080 every year next gen card cost the same as previous gen cards and perform better
>1080 comes out it costs 20% more and performs 10% better
>amazing deal

Nigga you funny. The manufacturers rebuy them from retailers so they can reuse the coolers for the newer models. They don't ever clear stock with a sale.

Knew it was the best bang for my buck.

let me explain this chart for you - bigger is better
770 is the worst mid range card on the list
