Ao doesn't even come close. I would mainly blame it the weak antagonists. Ao kept pulling "oh the antagonist isn't actually that bad" bullshit which really made the story weak in general. Weissman was a much better main antagonist with a much clearer intentions. AlthoughDieterwasn't too bad with his speaches. On the other side,arios arianrohd sigmundcombined couldn't come close to what loewe brought to the table in the story. It also didn't help that there was a lack of enforcers in action to hype up things.

Even if Ao pulled the antagonist not actually bad cliche,Dieterstill has good intention of wanting to protect Crossbell from dickass Erebonians and Calvardians. His means of achieving so likefalse flagging 9/11 on the IBCis just as climatic as end of chapter 7 in SC. In terms of boss fightsArios, Aryanlord, and Sigmundare much more fun to fight than Loewe. Though I'm disappointed that Aryanlord only played a sideline antagonist while supporting the main opposition. Agreed. I finished it a couple of weeks ago and could not believe how depressed I felt. It was such an adventure. I wish it was like those Saturday morning cartoon shows that went on forever. I simply couldn't get enough of the characters interacting.
That said, I think I prefer FC's plot more than SC's. SC's first half was really just a meaningless way to get you introduced to all the Enforcers. It didn't really kick into gear in the second half, and then the second half ended up being the typical stuff you'd find in any other JRPG.
FC on the other hand felt like a nice, soft adventure which slowly built up into the grandiose finale. Every chapter subtly tugged you along in an absolutely delightful way. It was amazing starting out thinking all the chapters are self contained only to look back and realize they were all key points of the plot.
Plus that ending. Damn.
That said, SC is better simply because, as I said before, the games thrive off of the interaction between the characters, and SC simply had more to give in terms of that. Scenes like the Tita/Agate one in Agate's house or the Olivier twist in chapter 8 were all amazing payoffs, and those are only a handful.
All in all a couple of amazing games. I can't wait for 3rd.

Started SC recently and I'm really liking it except the Enforcers seem pretty shite villains so far. I've only briefly met two (just starting ch.3), but the Phantom Thief seems like a joke villain while Direwolf came off as a generic evil anime guy with his ramblings on how epic it is for peoples heads to get squashed in earthquakes.

"antagonist with understandable motives" could possibly be a cliche. I prefer to remain unspoiled about the Crossbell arc until I play it myself so this exchange really has nowhere to go. Also I really don't like Trista as a hub map, it feels really sluggish and clunky thanks to these fucking loading times (on a goddamn cartridge game no less). Having a hub-based overworld worked for Persona 3 and 4 because the setting was just our regular world and there really wasn't anything else out there to explore or see. Trista doesn't work because this is a very well established setting and it seems like the game is hardly going to make use of it at all. The fact that the main cast is a bunch of high school students is annoying too but I'm letting that slide because I'm anticipating a twist wherein Class VII is actually an attempt to re-introduce the Bracer Guild and its principles to the Erebonian Empire.
