You hunt monsters, you start first with shitty quests and end up hunting bigger and stronger monsters.
The reward are items that helps you to get better weapons and armor. The monsters itself feel like they could be a boss in darksoul, specially the strong once.
Only big downside is that it takes around 5 - 8h until you are done with the "tutorial quests" and start getting really into MonsterHunter. But it is worth it.
Also Capcom hates it to release it on consoles and the last console version got released on the WiiU, next one will be released on the 3DS
I would buy a Ps4 if they would release a new one on it and not just a HD version of a old one

If you dont have a 3d or wiiu you could try to emulate the Wii version on your PC but no clue how the controlls are and it would be without the multiplayer part what is also a big downside.
Just wait until Capcom release a Ps4 version.
