Is it shameful to need a guide to beat point and clicks?
no
Most point & clicks are intentionally made so cryptic that they're impossible to beat without a guide.

I don't play Point and Click games just cuz I need a fucking guide to do anything in the game.
Fuck that genre.
>stuck onMonkey Island 2
I feel fucking stupid whenever I can't beat older games without a guide.

I've been "stuck" for years. I keep going back and losing interest at this point....
I always felt guilty about looking at a guide for hints when playing point and clicks, because I thought most people were able to figure it all out by themselves. Looking at this thread, I guess it's actually normal to not know what the hell to do in these games. Still love the genre though.
Post your favorite point and click games.
When the alternative is randomly clicking on various bullshit hoping that a clue just happens to pop out of the game's ass, then no. Typically a point and click doesn't have any logical progress so either you're clicking every pixel or combining various things you pick up hoping to God there's something useful made of them.
IE If I strap this banana peel I found under a chair to this bottle of pills, I can make this gorilla go to sleep which will allow me to examine his turd clusters and get the key to the tower!

Are you actually that dumb?

Depends on the game, for most though the answer is Yes.
Get pad/notebook/paper/notepad.exe and take notes. There games aren't testing your reflexes or mechanical ability - they are testing your cognitive functions - not everyone have an eidetic memory, so take notes instead.
Myst is a perfect game for this, you should be able to beat it in a few sittings without a guide - so long as you observe the environment and its action and importantly TAKE NOTES.
