The reason why is because levels in Doom 4 are designed to have wave after wave of enemies coming into an area before you can clear it.

So the game would start chugging heavily if you have about 50 dead rag dolls flopping everywhere.

There have been several games already that allow 3d corpses to stay forever, I remember world at war had some pretty satisfying corpse permanence

Dude those to keys that made the screen smaller and bigger were put in for a reason.
Being available as consumer model doesn't change the fact that most pc owners needed to run it on a small screen setting when it came out.
But that is the difference between spouting shit on /v/ and actually remembering being one of the few people you knew who could run it without using a smaller screen setting.
