As far as lore goes, is there only one CyberDemon/Spider Mastermind?
Like, are there just two guys in Hell fighting over which of them is better?
Or are there more than one just like all of the other types of demons?

Thy Flesh Consumed didn't ship with the original game. It's commonly seen as just an addon with no story. Just a few extra maps to kill stuff in.
I honestly wouldn't even say that the two times you fight the Spider are different Spiders. If Doom 4 lore is cannon, than they could be the same Spider but different universes.

Thers more than 1. Doom 2 has both up the ass later on, you can even make them fight in the map Gotcha!
If doom 4 is anything to go by, I think you just need a human sacrifice to summon a spider mastermind.

Yeah... the new cyberdemon looks like something from WoW. The new spider mastermind is cool though. A lot less goofy than the giant brain with stubby arms anyway.

He was found in a Hell expedition badly burned and needed Hell energy to revive him. Clearly he wanted revenge and got loose in the Mars facility but you kill him again.
He is part of a rare type of demon called the Baalgar that are rarely seen in Hell but they are very powerful.

Kind of dumb when you think about it. If they resurrected it to power the portal to Hell why'd they give it a big ass cannon? You'd think it would have been better to just chop off its limb and keep it on some kind of life support.

The original Doom had a backstory behind it that I guess can be considered lore. The original Doom marine was basically a marine who'd been shipped off to Mars after assaulting an officer who ordered him to fire on civilians and is the sole survivor the squad that was sent to investigate Phobos. At least that's how it was described in the manual.
