The first game wasn't really as good as I remembered either(it still had some cool stages though) and I always found second one kinda shitty, but god damn. Third is just way worse than what I remember.
I appreciate the open world they tried to do, but it's serious mess and you could easily lock yourself out of progress by picking up too many items that you couldn't drop, and buying keys was shitty.

Popped it in a few months back and I don't know how I put as much time as I did as a kid. That level design was atrocious.
I don't play bad games, so none.
Zelda oracles and LA. Holy crap the overworld is boring and a chore to traverse. Also most of the N64 games. Even greats like SM64 and OoT have those parts or levels I find tedious as fuck. SM64 has some really shitty level design. But the high points and the movement system makes up for it. OoT has some really padded puzzles, overall progression and mechanics that I would gladly romhack the shit out of if I could. The only thing that holds up in Rare games is the music.
In retrospect the NES games I played are just as good as I remembered. Contra and castlevania have killer levels and overall game design. I appreciate the fuck out of Zelda 2, Metroid and SMB. In fact I think the first SMB is miles better than all the sequels.
Snes was never a nostalgia point, I always thought the games on it sucked. Super metroid is eternal however. Chrono trigger lost a lot of points now that I know how bullshit time travel really is and how animu the whole plot is.
