WHY IS IT A MEME?
I'm playing through the game on EX mode right now and I don't understand why this blew up in Japan.
The game is a beautiful work of art that happens to be a mediocre RPS hack n slash with okay platforming.

It felt like a yoko taro game, but worse. The single-button combat never felt right and constantly having to purify or steal your weapons was pretty senseless.
It also has some downright bizarre design choices like throwing you three or four times into battles against watchers that you have no chance of winning, sometimes one directly after another.
Artstyle was pretty interesting and some environments were downright beautiful. Not a huge fan of the character design but it does fit in an odd way.

I mean it's a ride to play through, the game is always throwing out interesting ideas and twists. I mean this in terms of mechanics as well as characters, setting and story. But it never actually develops those ideas, and the core gameplay isn't very fun, so the game suffers. It's still utterly unique and something that, while it doesn't really make you think (and secretly, the game doesn't really want you to think too hard about it), is still something to be appreciated.

It's beautiful as shit
but the gameplay was so shallow and watery that i could barely slog through enough to see the pretty
360 or PS3? I bought the 360 version for $3, but I hear the PS3 version is better.

Shallow as fuck and the limited weapon selection and moveset gets old fast. But damn is it pretty.

360 has better anti-aliasing (as in it has anti-aliasing at all) but has slightly worse looking FMVs and framerate. There really isn't a big enough difference for it to be a big deal, just stick with 360.
