>disagree with an opinion
>"Well, you just have BAD TASTE in video games"

Is this the most bullshit argument of all time?
>>
Not as bullshit as "STOP SHOWING FAULTS IN THE GAME, MY OPINION IS THAT IT'S FUN AND THAT MEANS YOU CAN'T SAY ANYTHING ELSE REEEEEEEEE"
>>
>>337966656
Anyone that calls a video game "fun" is by far the worst argument what so ever. It is entirely meaningless and I suspect anyone that uses "fun" to praise a game is some fucking marketing shill.

(you)

Yes, but a lot of people here use it. Specifically people who play halo.

That's not an argument. That's an opinion.

'OP is a fag' is, however, a fact.

Not as gay as "/v/ is bad/doesn't play video games/hates games/and so on" that I see all the time despite it being opposite half the time and roll my eyes to why they're still here.
>>
"You're just bad at it" is worse.

>reading the comments of a negative review
>"why can't people just let me enjoy the game. I have fun and that's all that matters"

Why the fuck are you reading negative reviews than? Let alone commenting on them. I fucking hate when people respond to criticism with "but, I enjoy the game". Not caring about criticism isn't a valid response unless someone is somehow forcing an opinion on you (they aren't)

No.
Someone who has played a wider variety of games over a longer chronological time span is going to have more authority to speak than someone who has played less. People often don't like certain games because they have played ones that are better; likewise, people like certain games because they have not.

Theres no reason trying to explain your stance or reasons for arriving at a different conclusion. Some twitch watching, dorito eating, mouth breathing 30 year old retard in the basement is going to storm in and accuse you of shitposting for daring to go against his or the popular opinion. Fuck it. Shitposting is the only way to go here
>>
>>337968625
Fun is a buzzword, it's an opinion and can't be quantified. Saying something's fun just means it's fun for you, it doesn't mean it's fun for everyone.
>>
>>337968515

Except that's still a subjective opinion. People naturally like different things. Some 60-year old RPG veteran told me every TES game from Arena to Skyrim were objectively trash and skippable. Which is utter bullshit.
>>
>>337970525
Chances are he was right.

>>
>>337970648

Almost a majority of /v/, and a lot of RPG communities consider Morrowind was a revolutionary and amazing game. You're telling me that because one old, bitter veteran (who admitted to having a personal bias against Bethesda) is a quantified opinion above the majority? If some famous Chef tells you Pizza is a shit food, you tell me you should stop enjoying it?
>>
>>337968625
kek. He is absolutely correct
>>
>>337966656
Actually..
>Well it's good in MY OPINION
... Is the worst argument of all time. Whether you like something or not is completely irrelevant. Good is a factual qualifier and if you use it as a synonym for "a thing I like" then you're contributing to the death of the English language and the destruction of literal meaning...
That is, if you want to have an actual discussion.

People's opinions don't matter. If you want to rate and rank things, you do so intelligently using the appropriate criteria. 99.9999999999999% of posters here have absolutely no right to really be rating anything.
Arguing with terms like 'good' with any of you is fucking retarded.

If you just use "I like" or "I dislike" and not "good" and "bad", everything will be less upsetting for you jerks.
>>
>>337971765

Then who IS qualified to "rate" games? Paid reviewers?
>>
>>337972585
This.
And to add to that what would be appropriate criteria for us plebeians to rate and rank?
>>
>>337972585
Ease off on those implications.
To have the absolute most indisputable reviews is completely implausible.
Generally speaking, though, a thing should be reviewed with relation to what it is and what it refers to itself as. And ideally it would involve a restructure of the way things are categorised and genres, et.c.

Realistically, who fucking gives a shit about any reviews at all?

Unless a list of the best things ever is something you need to keep track of, then reviews are completely worthless. All they result in are people using them to justify liking things or allowing them to decide what it is that they like.

An actual, competent review is only possible on a case by case basis. Like, Mark from Classic Game room plays lots of games and can be trusted to review certain things, but when it comes to actual ideas being represented and anything besides "this is really fun, I like this,... TRUXTON" he's not really much use.
Like, for someone to review something as simple as the character designs in most games, even a kids game like Pokemon, they need to have a specialised knowledge of all of folklore, culture, biology and whatever else... It's complete pointlessness.

If you want reviews tailored to you, though, then your best bet is to firstly figure out what it is that you like (specifically), then figure out why and what makes that what you like... And then form criteria off of that with which everything can be measured. And even that seems like too complicated a task for the majority of people.

If I were to write a review it would be a concise paragraph that highlights the general theme, the general gameplay mechanics and the tone of the game itself... I'm not sure anything else is necessary for someone to know pre-purchase.

>>337973208
Just because I presented an argument doesn't mean I'm some sort of arsehole who thinks he's better than everyone, mate. Even though I am.
>>
>>337967198
How can you tell this again?
>>
Well, if you're spouting a simplistic opinion about a game you either never played or never got sufficiently far enough in, then you're a faggot who is devaluing the topic and deserves to get banned .
