I really loved the first one and few months after finishing it I decided to play the second one since everybody was saying how amazing it is and that it improved in every way what the first one did wrong.
You can imagine how fucking disappointed I was. Don't get me wrong it was a great game, but it's not nearly as fun as the first one.
That feeling of disappointment is the only thing keeping me from playing the third one, but I do want to play it just to get the full story.

I too think Witcher 1 has a special charm to it. And while every Witcher game is drastically different, my favourite one is still Witcher 3.

If you want to play it for the whole story, get hammered between each sessions.
That being said, to play it for combat even though it's better than 2 by leaps and bounds, ambience is damn sweet, or would be if you could actually walk wherever you wanted instead of being boxed in invisible walls. The story pushes Geralt/Yen so fucking hard that not putting together is an absolute dick move.
Ciri is a best, though.

It didn't look like arse, visual design was much better, the quest system wasn't the worst thing ever created, the voiceacting didn't make your ears bleed and the combat was much better.
Aside from the main story and you might argue atmosphere, it's superior in every way.

There was too much sharpening in TW2, and it looks really strange especially if you can't use ubersampling.
If turned it off in the .ini, everything looks MUCH better, especially the skin.
