I expect the depth to suffer to some degree, no doubt, which is the main reason I think it isn't going to appeal to some.
But I fucking love slow paced exploration focused games - stuff like Grow Home, Euro Truck Sim 2 and so on - which have fairly simple core mechanics because I find the exploration/travelling itself appealing. I've also spent a fair amount of time in Space Engine just looking at planets and systems and seeing what they're like.
Like I said, it's a game that appeals to me personally a lot, but I get why it's not for everyone.
