Why does everything have to be compared to Dark Souls? This genre existed long before Dark Souls, it's called a platform ARPG

However, there was no map on ps4 which FUCKING SUCKED and the art direction is pretty terrible. Other than that it's awesome and is exactly what it set out to be, a 2d dark souls for better or worse.

My only big complaint is the art style, while quaint, it doesnt recreate the epic vistas found in souls

Kinda regret buying PS4 version, never even made it to the second boss and not touched it since launch. Didn't wow me but I hope the later areas have better background scenery. It was alright but I think scene transitions really take out the Dark Souls world design aspect I love even if it all connects in a realistic manner.
