They're focusing on mainstream GPUs right now. That's what Polaris is for. Vega is for high end which is in October. Zen is scheduled for Q4.
>>
Still no 60fps average at 4k, time to wait another year, this card honestly offers nothing.
>>
>>337931968
I want AMD to secceed. I have an AMD GPU+CPU. Their business practices are better for everyone. They are much better is terms of price/power ratio. But they just seem to be bad at business. Nvidia is proving you need to jew to win. ;_;

>>
>>337932572
Why is 4K just a big deal to you win most games don't even have textures good enough to take advantage of it?
>>
>>337932692
Not really. /g/ is nothing but a circle jerk about Linux and open source software and they do nothing but shitpost if you try to talk about anything related to Windows or gaming.

>>337932625
>jew to win

Putting out more powerful hardware isn't jewing. And last I checked Nvidia forced AMD to lower their prices on their cards after the 970 and 980 were released since they had lower pricing. Hell they had to lower the price on the Fury cards after the FuryX was a disappointment. Both companies have forced each other to be competitive in pricing. If AMD can't keep up, that's their problem.

How will AMD recover from this?
>>
>>337932996
The fact that Nvidia is unmatched with the high in cards is irrelevant. Most people don't go for the high and AMD is the best bang for your buck for mid end cards. Even assuming that Nvidia beats AMD in performance across all tiers that alone should had made a %90 market share difference.

The aspies doing these reviews are running MSAA and other intensive AA methods that are made moot by 2k/4k

HBM2 next year and AMD is releasing their next gen cards first.

Nvidias new Pascal cards are last gen Maxwell refreshes with a smaller die. Sure they beat AMD's last gen crap like the 290 but not even by a significant margin. AMD's Vega will rape Pascal.

There's no GPU on this planet that beats Fury X's performance per watt performance at its size. It was never supposed to go against a GPU 3x its size like the 980Ti.
>>
>>337933536
nvidia's been the one with driver issues lately though.
>>
>>337933536
AMD drivers aren't bad. In fact as of now it is Nvidia who is failing at drivers for Windows 10. Again this is where jewry comes in, Nvidia is buddy buddy with developers to purposely use exclusive software in games with no real benefit but to gimp AMD. AMD doesn't lock down their technology so Nvidia can adjust their drivers for an AMD optimized game but Nvidia doesn't allow AMD to do the same. Nvidia even engages in outright unethical practices such as false advertising and sabotaging their olding hardware to force upgrades.

But gamers are idiots so they buy Nvidia anyway because they must have the best performance for gimped console ported games that should easily be maxed out with low-mid in cards if they were properly optimized.
>>
>>337933882
What? I'm not defending AMD my man. I'm saying the use of fluff settings is underselling the 1080

>Nvidias new Pascal cards are last gen Maxwell refreshes with a smaller die
I don't get it. Why do you lie. Do you have absolutely zero idea whatsoever at all of how engineering chips works? In practical terms, Pascal is as far away a 'refresh' of the last microarchitecture as we've had in the past 5 years. Do you have any idea what that word even means?

To be perfectly clear, every single architecture is a refresh of its predecessor because of how engineering of the chips works, but that's why I said practical terms, meaning the last mile. To go into specific examples, the Radeon R9 280X is, even in practical terms, a refresh of the Radeon HD 7970.

They are located on the graphics card itself.

AMD cards (by FAR) have a MUCH wider memory bus than Nvidia.

Pascal is a fucking rehash of the GTX 900 series. It can't even Async compute at a hardware level just like Maxwell.

All Nvidia has done is did a die shrink, overclock the cards, and the rebranded and marketed them as brand new bleeding edge cards.

Anyone who gives a shit about performance knows to wait for HBM2 next year. Where high bandwidth memory is actually NEEDED to push 4K resolutions and silky smooth VR.

Just a reminder that AMD has total control over the gaming market now. Every major console maker has their machines built with AMD. Games on PC are now going to be using Vulkan and DX12 which are all based on Mantle'a core API which was made exclusively by pic related.

No, the reference card is sold for 699$ and the other, actually only useful one, is going to be sold for 599$.

Say whatever you want

Smart consumers will be waiting for when Nvidia actually has a new architecture which will mean actual better performance, not maxwell on steroids.

Of course synthetic benchmarks heat up a card. Show me one single game where it would even get close to that temp. Oh right you can't.
>B...but Crysis 3!
Fucking 20 degree difference. Once cards with custom coolers are out temps will be half of that.

I'm looking forward to the GTX 1070 reviews. It should be just about on par with the 980 ti, thus about equal to my GTX 780 SLI setup in most games, except with 8GB VRAM, no SLI headache and all that jazz. Will gladly upgrade as long as the price is sane.

I wish this was true. Ubisoft games proved that just because a game was optimized for consoles doesn't mean it will be optimized for AMD cards on PC. And Sony consoles never had Directx so no even if a game used Mantle for a console game they could use Directx for PC and they probably will because PC games are unoptimized on purpose to sell cards (if games were properly optimized we would still be maxing out every AAA release with GPUs from two gens ago).

No, it's because his well shilled data are from a single beta benchmark from GameGPU.ru
The actual stable version 1.3 shows no such performance degradation. It does show some mild improvements on AMD.
That was coincidentally the patch where they added FLEX (Nvidia only) and HBAO+. It's even possible that Nvidia cards had it on while AMD cards didn't.
It's basically the same situation as with the well memed DOOM Alpha benchmark from the same site.
But mentioning that would not of course slot to his one sided narrative, so he omits that.
I can only recommend you to check the sources and don't take every hack with a youtube channel at his word right away.

>PS4k using AMD
>Xbone 2 using AMD
>Nintendo NX using AMD
>Vega10 dominates PC with HBM2
>>
what i would like to know is can the 1080 handle skyrim with 100+ enb mods in vr without melting and catching fire?
>>
>>337938087
Absolutely, even if Polaris isn't all that great is should still bring a nice upgrade at a similar pricepoint to the 380/380x.
>>
>The only place Nvidia beats AMD is in the price range barely anyone can afford
You sure showed them huh.
>>
>>337938087
Wait. Regardless of what AMD puts out, prices will fall soon.
>>
>>337937867
I've been running 1440p for almost a year now and had no real issues yet but some games do push awfully close to the 3GB limit. I've got Shadow of Mordor in my backlog for example.

The 1070 is looking to be capable of 1440p 60 fps easily, and that's with meme AA enabled
>>

>>
>>337931591
Why does it have a 980 non ti?
>>
>>337938365
>>337937867
i just don't see the 1070 being a good option at the moment. i'll probably just get the 1080 and call it a day.
>>
>>337938601
Let's just wait for benchmarks.
>>
>>337938319
>>337938365
I hope the 1070 will perform well on 1440, but in two years, it's probably going to perform meh there. If you want 1440 with decent prospects for the future, it's 1080 time.
>>337938601
The question here is, a good option for what? A lower power lower price replacement for the 980ti? That's a good option in my book.
>>
>>337938564
because it would match the 1080 at points. and it would show that this is just a die shrink instead of some dramatic increase in perf/watt
>>
>>337938354
Literal 5th generation re-brand. Furyx is on the same architecture of the 5xxx series. You can only re-brand so many times before you hit a wall.

The 980 is UNIRONICALLY Fury X's competitor now. Having a 980ti would have AMDs BEST GPU getting stomped by every Nvidia card and would likely result in Foundry being called bias. Even THEN the 980 is stomping the Fury X in certain games (Tomb Raider/Project Cars) and neck and neck with it in pretty much the rest (outside of Hitman/Singularity).

Literally embarrassing, the 980 is around $200 cheaper and can overclock significantly better
>>
So 1070 is probably going to be the go to for maxed out 1080p then?

Guess i'll just buy one of those this christmas or some shit.
>>
>>337938927
1080p? Fuck no, 1440p is the way.
Or 1080p144Hz.
>>
>>337938998
What about 1080p then? 980ti?
>>
>>337938927
Maxed 1080 at 120/144 fps, yes
1080/60 would be a waste of your dosh
>>
>>337939052
You can run most current titles at 1080/60 high-ultra with a 960
>>
>>337931561
They don't need to make a move. Nvidia gpus always were, are and will be the ones to pick if you go for very high/enthusiast end pc build whiile AMD is low-to-high end focused.. AMD just has to release a $199 card with gtx970-980 performance and a $299 card with gtx980ti-1070 performance and they'll regain marketshare they deserve.
And if you bothered to look Vega with HBM2 is confirmed already for October (Polaris seems to be mobile only).
>>
>>337939196
So is buying a 1070/1080 only for people really invested in higher resolutions/VR?

Guess i'll stay away from upgrading for a few more years.

980bro here, will my GPU last me another generation of cards before I need to upgrade? I only game at 1080p and as long as I hit 60fps maxed out then i'll be fine. Unoptimised games need not apply.
>>
>>337939257
Polaris 11 is mobile-oriented and Polaris 10 is for desktops.
>>
>>337939309
The 1070 is a good option for people who want to play 1080p and be set for the next years. The 960 is at its limit, the 970 will be soon.
The 1080 is for people who want VR or higher res.

kinda disappointing didn't Nvidia market this as like 3-5x more powerful than 9xx series?

Guess what's inside all those consoles every AAA shitter studio keeps making games for?

And 30% of PCs
>>
>>337939321

You're beyond fine as long as AMD keeps shitting the bed and with those "next gen" consoles around. Worst comes to worst in 2~ years when your GPU starts showing its age, throw a basic OC on it and turn it into a 980ti, maxwell cards overclock like a MOTHERFUCKER.

970 would even last you fine for 1080p gaming. You can most likely skip this generation of Nvidia cards entirely, maybe even the next one with your 980 unless you want to game at 1440p.

>>337938927

Getting a 1070 for 1080p is retarded, the 1070 is likely going to match the 980ti which is a clear 1440p/4k card. You're better off getting a 980 for 1080p gaming, maybe a 390/390x if you want a cheaper yet inferior GPU tot he 980.

>>337939257

>AMD just has to release a $199 card with gtx970-980 performance and a $299 card with gtx980ti-1070 performance and they'll regain marketshare they deserve.

lel, what? Their $300-500 GPUs don't have 980/980ti performance.

980 > 390/390x
980ti > Fury/Fury X

Shit, the Fury/Fury X arguably has less overall power than the 980, let alone the 980ti (see: >>337938354 & >>337937985) due to their pathetic OC capabilitiy.

Their only worthwhile GPU right now is their 390 due to it being objectively better than the 970 AND being able to OC well.
>>
>>337935965
Similar situation but with 2x770's sli'd. Everyone swore up and down I'd only need 2GB vram for 1080p gaming, I shouldn't have listened.

Hopefully the 1070 is a big enough upgrade, it isn't a huge commitment financially so I won't feel obligated to not upgrade if something really exciting comes out.

Wait you people going to buy this "already set up to be gimped" space heater that somehow still runs DX12 games worse than much older AMD Cards? Fucking seriously?

Polaris will hit this summer, Zen this fall along with Vega this fall or winter. You're all just throwing money away on a polished turd to play older games slightly faster! The new and old games will run better on AMD.

DX12 will wither and die just like DX10. Vulkan is already seeing support from Bethesda and Square Enix.

>>
>>337942107
If you're patient enough I'd suggest waiting for AMD's Vega series at the end of the year and choose the best of either side.
If not, just go for the 1080, it's a damn fine card as benchmarks suggest.
>>
>>337941706
Wait until all benchmarks are out, and the prices have readjusted.
>>337942107
It won't, no matter which. So get a $350 card and do so again in three years, same cost, more spread, better results.
>>
>>337931561

>>337931561
I game on 1080p and will continue doing so for many, many years. The jump from 1080p to 4K is nowhere NEAR enough to justify the costs.

>>337942434
we all def want amd to keep swinging even if they aren't the best around, because if they go belly up it's gonna get too monopoly for nvidia and that spells higher prices lesser bang for buck

I expect to run any console game at 1080p/60fps at an absolute minimum on the highest settings.

If we're already talking 80fps and these cards aren't out yet and this generation has only just started... that really doesn't bode well.
