Snake was always designed to look like Kurt Russel in Escape from NY/LA.

MGSV is even more Western inspired because they used Kiefer Sutherland's face as the base to build BB on.

Actually no he's not, well.. maybe.

Kojima said that they used a bunch of different peoples faces, scanned them in, and took different parts to make BB's face. The way he worded it (I don't know what article he said this at, you'll just have to Google it) seemed like they used a lot of the KojiPro developers as facial scanners.

So, to imply BB looks Japanese would make sense because a few of the people they used to make his face were Japanese. Perhaps they used Kiefer as well, but who knows.

That's for the facial capture, i.e. the way BB's mouth/eyes/facial structure moves when he talks.

That doesn't confirm that they used Kiefer's face to create the design of Big Boss's face. In fact, he doesn't really look like Kiefer Sutherland all that much.

They did used Kiefer's, but the actual 'likeness' or even the whole face structure, just the facial 'expression' on the mouth,cheek,browetc the parts that moves and twitches when Kiefer speaks and acts, so as to show more 'realistic' expression 1:1 to Kiefer's acting.

It's no secret, Kojima might be a genius but it's his growing up with action espionage / military early 80s film that inspired him to make MGS in the late 80s.

It's films like 81' Escape from NY and 84' MIA and Hollywood actors like Kurt Rusell and Chuck Norris that led to Snake's design, starting from the first 86' MG.

Bruce Willis? Guy didn't become a classic reluctant hero until Die Hard and even then he looks round and chubby, nothing like anything we're used to see.

That is already known fact, Kojima wanted to make Solid Snake as the 'first' discernable or identifyable Snake in the series, and also as a younger fledging.

He took Van Damme's pyshique and Walken's character, aura, personality as to present a younger, edgier and slightly undisciplined version of Snake.

You know how Kojima likes to keep secret and planned decades early on, you can tell that Big Boss was what he had on his mind all these time.

It's obvious that Kojima's favorite Snake is Big Boss, it's obvious that the later part of the game, or the early part of the story was his favorite.

MG 1 / 2 / MGS 3 / PW / MGS 5 anything related to the first Snake was his original idea, and in his mind it was always a Kurt Rusell / Chuck Norris-looking Snake.

It's actually the opposite to your point, Solid Snake and the other 'young' Snake design came a decade later and he only needs to make a reference to the popular actors of that time, which was Van Damme, and the eccentric but powerful Christopher Walken.

the only reason Sutherland was brought in instead of Hayter was

Kojima wanted to make a point. The newer games will look benefit from new technology and will look better than ever, and be more widely available than ever

They brought in Kiefer because he is a good actor, instantly recognizable voice, and he wanted Kiefer's emotions and expressions be captured and transferred to Snake's face.

So in reality we are still seeing Snake, but his 'likeness', not visually, but feeling and emotion, dude you can tell it's Kiefer Sutherland from miles away.

The level of freedom in gameplay is what open world should really be about.

A lot of games claim to be open world but most missions can only be done one way, or your set in a linear area. mgsv isn't open world for the sake of little gimmicks and distractions, it's open world for the sake of it's gameplay. Honestly that's how it should be.

I hate this japanese lineage shoe horning. Caucasian characters made to be half japanese even though they look 100% caucasian. When will such characters actually look at least mixed? Its ass backwards to the point that japanese characters themselves sometime just look like dark haired caucasians. Same thing goes with anime. Ironically, chinese characters are the only ones they make somewhat chinky looking. Even then its slightly so.(see wufei from gundam wing)
