Because you have 24 hours a day and these approaches take the form of 10-20 minute pitches and ~an hour of research depending on the size of your investment. The other opportunities I'm talking about, where they want to buy your face or brand, take about an hour of production time (most of the while you're being waited upon and respected by everyone around you.)
The work he does is not hard. The fact that he does it should be enough to let you know that, bar the rare and exceptional case, he's only doing exactly what he wants to do.
Also, tangentially related, you have to keep in mind that while he's "working," not only is he getting waited upon by service staff ("production assistants" lol), he's probably able to do whatever he wants during downtime and even during non-critical production work. Because who on the set is going to go "Mr. Millionaire Boss Sir, please stop playing your PS VITA while I go over this script with you."
That's not to say he does it, most of the time it pays to be hard-working and respectful, but the fact that its an option makes the work that much more bearable.

I have a nongaming youtube channel that manages about two million views a month off of daily animations. during the dry advertising months of the year, I get around two grand each month which is more than what I made at my factory job working horrible hours. When it gets closer to the holidays and CPM goes up I can get closer to four or five thousand. I'm only averaging around 50,000 views per video. More than manageable for any regular video maker. It isn't the millions that Pewdiepie gets, but I live in a small town and that amount of money pays all my bills and allows me plenty of free time to do the things I like, like complain about games on the internet. Anybody could do it as long as they weren't living in some big city that eats up all your money on bills and taxes.
