It's not false, but some heroes just don't have much going for them ceiling wise which is depressing.

My main gripe with this game is how fragile the heroes are. Because of that it turns into a panic fest, spammy, non-comfy game. It's more annoying than fun. Other shooters at least have some technical fun to it.

One game having a higher skill ceiling doesn't imply that the game being compared to has a low ceiling, only that it is relatively lower. That is how scales work.

For the average and above average pub Overwatch is an extremely simple game to do well in. 80% of the ults and abilities barely require you to aim and works well in almost all situations.

Cheesing strats will also be the cancer killing this game because it doesn't require you to do much either.

Only at super high level (aka the competitive scene lmao) will any sort of skill ceiling be required.

No they weren't.
You think rocket jumping only consists of the basic jump they showed in the announcement trailer of TF2?

>>337927640
The point is Soldier rocket jumping involves much more than Pharah and requires a lot more skill to do. Not only can he easily do the jumps Pharah does, he can do far more stuff that makes. And yes, they're all completely relevant techniques that soldiers use regularly in competitive to stay mobile.

You're still missing the point.
But I think I see what the problem is. When I (and many others) say "rocket jumping" I'm referring to the act of flicking your wrist downwards, clicking, and pressing jump+crouch. It sounds like you're thinking of it as whole package including the advanced stuff which is not wrong. It's just that in the context of this argument, that isn't what everyone thinks of.
Yes, high-level soldier takes more skill than high level pharah. I don't think anyone will argue with that.

>>337928909
Honestly, even in the basic jump, it takes more skill for Soldier to pull it off. All Pharah has to do is press shift and hover up to where she wants to go. Discounting the extra inputs soldier has, (crouch jumping) he also has to position his rocket properly and have the right timing to make sure he gets the right height. He also can't hover and he can't hold down w or he loses momentum. He needs to airstrafe, which isn't easy.

But yeah, Ill agree that at the most basic of basic jump level, the skill difference isn't drastic.

Tracer = Scout who doesn't need any maneuvering skill because of her teleport and has an inbuilt ctrl+Z button for when she fucks up.

Torj = Engineer who only has one building which gets upgraded to max level 5 seconds, is free to build and repair, has virtually no resource management.

Pharah = Soldier who gets 6 loaded rockets, a free rocket jump + hover and something to push people away from herself.

Mercy = Medic who gets a medi-gun and Kritz built into one with a Quick-Fix utility for keeping up with her heal target and get's to revive people she failed at healing.

Widow = Sniper whose rifle charges twice as fast and stays scoped between shots, gets a trap to protect her from getting snuck up on instead of needing proper awareness an whose Sniper Rifle is also an SMG.

Didn't play Junkrat during the beta to see how he compares to Demoman.

I know Blizzard have implied this, but I don't see it. The game is not an arena shooter, it's objective focused and puts less emphasis on deathmatch than other FPS games. It also has very simplified movement mechanics.

>Mercy
Juggling between heal and damage boost is actually pretty deep, anon. Same with how she can make a lot of use out of her fly The medic at least only has to focus on his one heal-beam.

Outside of crusader's crossbow shots, I'd argue Mercy is the only Overwatch character taking more skill than their TF2 counterpart. But that's more due to medics being piss easy.

>Widow
Venom mine is pretty obvious and does negligible damage. It also hurts her, so as long as a flanker gets behind her and past the mine, shes easy pickings. She doesn't have a get out of jail free card with the razorback.

bear trap =/= instant kill sticky nades that can guard a point with a wide range when he's not looking

cant snap headshot tracers and genjis running at them, cant easily finish off tanks with quick headshots.

okay.
>>
>>337930641
>fail to point out that overwatch did the smart thing and removed the cancer that is critical hits
Yeah, like half the custom servers in tf2.

>There's no spy instakills
There is really nothing wrong with instakills if they require an appropriate amuont of skill. But it's true that spies mostly rely on the lack of skill in the enemy team.

>Widow makers uncharged headshot doesn't do 200 damage
Neither do Sniper headshots in tf2. They are enough to instakill other snipers and scouts only.
>>
>>337930836
The bear trap is easy to spot and can be smashed easily. He can only place one at a time and it has a long cooldown . Demoman on the other hand can instakill you with his sticky traps and immediately place them again, as long as he still has ammo.

Saying that Tracer doesn't take any skill to maneuver because of her blink is like saying that Scout doesn't take any skill to maneuver because he can double-jump. It's a tool that you have to make skillful use of in order to maneuver effectively.

>Widow = Sniper who gets a trap to protect her from getting snuck up on instead of needing proper awareness
Widow's trap is a DoT, which means that while it MIGHT net you a retaliation kill, if somebody gets the jump on you while you're sniping you're still going down before they do unless you actually do have proper awareness to react quickly to their presence.

I get that you're trying to make it sound like every TF2 class is more complicated to play than their analog characters in Overwatch, but come on, guy. Either your argument sucks or your bait is weak, but either way I'm sure you can do better.

>Saying that Tracer doesn't take any skill to maneuver because of her blink is like saying that Scout doesn't take any skill to maneuver because he can double-jump.

They're completely different.

Tracer's teleport is a lot more erratic and you can't predict where she'll end up, Scout inevitably has to land somewhere after his second jump and doesn't have an inbuilt ctrl+z button if his positioning is bad.

This is why good Scout's generally stay on the ground more using their superior speed to dodge shit / confuse their opponents rather than double jumping and making it easier for them to hit when they land or making themselves easier to hit in the air.

>Widow's trap is a DoT, which means that while it MIGHT net you a retaliation kill

>There's no cooldown between switching, it's not deep at all.
Yeah it is. You need to decide during pushes whether it's better to be giving your pocket damage boost to kill their target faster or whether you want to heal them so they tank all the damage hitting them. Choose the wrong one and both of you die. And the fact that it has no cooldown makes it even deeper, because it allows you to freely switch between them mid fight. You could potentially sync when they fire with damage boost and heal when they aren't firing.

>so it's a good alarm system if someone is getting close
And if someone get hits but it, they're honestly bad. It sticks out like a sore thumb.
Her wallhack is bullshit I'll admit. All it needs is for it to be audible when widowmaker uses her ult, so you can wait a bit before attacking her. Hopefully that'll get patched

Basically the person who generated the most heat in the shortest amount of time + certain modifiers = PotG.

So let's say a Pharah killed 5 people on the point on Lijang tower. Later that game, a lucio wall rides and kills the entire enemy team as the crossed the bridge to mid by using his sonic blast. However, PotG goes the reaper who ulted on the point during the first round, because he killed 4 people on the cap while it was 96% in their favor, capped the point, and won the round.

That's an example of how PotG works. Reaper won even though he killed 4 people, he got a modifier bonus for killing all enemies on the cap when they were close to winning the round as well as for helping his team secure the point.

Lucio got modifier points for a team kill, but didn't get PotG because he lacked the time factor modifier and the capture modifier.

Pharah pulled off a good ult, but got no modifiers whatsoever because she didn't secure the point (she can't cap when she's flying too high), she didn't get the team kill (we're assuming 1 person lived and didn't get caught in her ult), and there was no time factor bonus.
>>
So here we are again. Another thread where TF2 loyalists who never properly supported their game, are angry that Overwatch is taking over.

This is exactly what a good Tracer does, too.

Yeah she's got the undo button, but it's got a fairly lengthy cooldown relative to the pace of the game, and in the context of every other character and what they're going to be using to try and kill her, it's a reasonable and balanced part of her kit.

I'm not going to try arguing that TF2 is inferior to Overwatch or that Overwatch is a deeper, more complex game, because I don't believe either of those things. TF2 was and remains a very solid game. But the comparisons that you're trying to make are full of fanboy-style bias, and I'm not okay with that.

There used to be issues with PotG cams, but in reality he probably damaged a bunch of the enemy team before getting killed, and his team finished them off. He got PotG because everyone else in that match sucked serious ass and his kill participation credit was the only thing worthy of PotG.

It's rare, but it happens. Especially when it's a round full of noobs.
>>
>>337932940
>whether it's better to be giving your pocket damage boost to kill their target faster

She heals at 50HP/S and damage increase is 30%

If they're getting shot at it's less about which one you decide to give them and more based on how well your heal target and the enemie(s) shooting at them can aim which you literally can't decipher on the fly. If you're heal target gets an additional shot in because you're healing them then that would effectively be a 100% damage increase which would take 3 boosted non-missed damage shots to almost match.

It's not about you, it's about the person you're healing and whose shooting at them.

>And if someone get hits but it, they're honestly bad. It sticks out like a sore thumb.

It's literally not difficult to hide to get people around corners, on walls, behind objects etc, if you put it right on the ground in the middle of nowhere, yeah, it's probably gonna get defused.

Well there's no benefit to Tracer jumping unless she's trying to get on an elevated position or over a gap combining it with her teleport.

>Yeah she's got the undo button, but it's got a fairly lengthy cooldown relative to the pace of the game

This isn't that relevant at a 12 second cooldown time, she just doesn't reengage until it's back up again or she spots an easy target. Just like a Scout retreating for a medkit, except he has to escape the situation with no special abilities which render him invulnerable and gives him health back.

Has your argument seriously degenerated to the point that you're literally telling me you're too slow to play Tracer?

>Well there's no benefit to Tracer jumping unless she's trying to get on an elevated position or over a gap combining it with her teleport.
Yes, that was my fucking point. You're telling me that there's no real pointing in a Scout hopping around like a monkey all the time, and that he is played skillfully by running circles around his opponents to disorient them. I'm saying Tracer is played the same way.

>This isn't that relevant at a 12 second cooldown time, she just doesn't reengage until it's back up again or she spots an easy target.
There is no gametype in Overwatch in which you win by racking up kill points, so as long as you're removing her from the fight by forcing her to chicken out with rewind and hide in a corner until it's back up, you're outplaying her. Twelve seconds is a long time for a player to be standing around doing nothing, and that's if you don't just follow her into her corner to finish her off anyway.

Besides, there are plenty of characters who counter her rewind pretty hard - I killed plenty of Tracers in the open beta by tricking them into rewinding themselves straight into a Junkrat trap.
>>
>>337933787
>you literally can't decipher on the fly
You can decipher when your teammate is firing if they're using a character like roadhog where the fire rate is slow and his moves are predictable. sync your damage boost to when he fires off his shotgun and heal during ghe reload. You essentially flash the damage boost when he fires. It sounds damn hard, but I can see it being doable. what matters is whether your pocket does enough damage quick enough to kill them before they kill either you or your pocket. Which one you choose depends on how healthy the opponent is. If the opponent is weak, but has chipped you pocket down, the damage boost would be needed before they can fire off more shots to kill the pocket. Damage boost allows classes with slow fire rates to kill faster classes before they can grind them down. Mei for example needs to be killed quick, so dmg boost is better against her. It doesn't matter if you're healing them, if she freezes your pocket, that's it.

This is why I don't understand why people think Overwatch has interesting or funny characters.
They all feel so phoned in and sterile so the game can appeal to kids.

Not him but I think he's making the point that you can't COUNTER Tracer like you can the scout because she has 3 fucking instant teleports

Some of the video like that genji reflect or midair snipe from widowmaker is pretty cool, but almost all of is like Q's on Q's. And almost every ult in this game is guaranteed free kills.

That assumes the game will ever have a proper competitive scene.

I guarantee 100%, all you people saying this, are shit at the game, are shit at all FPS. Go play Quake if you're such a pro. You're not. You're just a 3rd world brazillian poor fuck who's mad that they can't buy this game.

Yeah, I see where you're coming from.
I'm not initially too interested in these types of arena shooters, but based on all the asshurt it's generating I gave the beta a shot. It wasn't that bad. There's plenty of ways to get past "OP" characters and I'm liking the tactics behind certain levels. But since it's blizzard I'm a bit skeptical, especially considering that certain cosmetics are locked behind RNG.

Don't underestimate brazilian snipers anon, i've seen some shit and they always find a fucking way to buy games Thet probably mug someone i dunno

This is one of the most common and shitty arguments against any game. The atmosphere, art, characters are a huge influence in the enjoyment of a game. And deriving designs from other games isn't inherently bad.

No, a lot of people on /v/ are shit at or generally uninformed when it comes to games and likes to circlejerk about empty notions of "skill". All tell, no show.

So is this worth it if you have no friends? It looks fun but I don't want to waste £38 on something that sucks with public randoms.

Why does it always boil down to this fucking argument here?
Did you ever consider that people are skeptical as fuck about giving Blizzard money after Mists of Pandaria, the cash shop, and dumbing down their previous raids in order to "appeal to a wider audience"?
>>
>>337937092
>Mists of Pandaria

I think you mean Warlords of Draenor.

Once again, nice deflect. Were talking about skill ceilling not tournaments themselves.

Budokai and ninja storm have tournaments but does that make them as skill intensive as guilty gear?

Halo has tournaments but does that make it as hard to learn as unreal?

Overwatch shills seem to mistake good plays with skill, which on a basic level does require coordination and skilled teamplay. The problem is that every fps with 6v6s does the same and since aiming is so easy in the game or shutdown by ability usage theres very little wiggle room for players to flourish based on individual skill, especially with movement. So they make up for it based on team composition and more characters rather than you know, actual skill.

Nah but ill totally drop 40 bucks for he hight competitive skill based fun that is overwatch! Be sure to check out my twitch stream!

I got killed 2-3 when I strafe into cover because of the shit server tick rate, this better be fixed.

There is no pubstomping since the game forced matchmaking system will force you to players of your approximate skill level. And there is very little content.

Maybe it's worth it if you are a tryhard and wants to climb in the rankings.
