Consider something like Mistborn (in case you've read it), the magic in that universe has very clear limitations and rules of what can and can't be done

Sacrificing does help, the gods have a lot of power in the game's setting. Divination is also extremely useful, since your clan's ancestors see everything that happens on your lands.

When I played the game for the first time I destroyed the ducks pretty early and then fucked with the centaurs or whatever their name was. I was in for a surprise.

Expeditions Conquistador is King's Bounty-like that has resource management and random events where the outcome depends on your stats and decisions. You'll have characters getting sick, getting ambushed at night, meeting natives with unclear intentions etc.
The text events are not the the main focus of the game, but they're there and I can't recall any other games that do that except Oregon Trail and Darklands.
