That's the theory anyway.

I'm against silencing dissent, but I'm also in favor of review aggregators that actually aggregate reviews. That article wasn't a review in the slightest, just a retard saying he doesn't like the story of the Uncharted games and saying nothing about the game. Even your average Steam or Metacritic user review has more insight than that.

No. The kind of people who obsess about metacritic scores for Sony games already finished Uncharted and refuse to play multiplats. So they have time to shitpost here and on metacritic until the next Ps4 exclusive arrives.

>when all you have as evidence is hearsay.

Dude just use google, it's a well known fact.

http://kotaku.com/metacritic-matters-how-review-scores-hurt-video-games-472462218

The first article I read about it was nearly 10 years ago and highlighted that the real problem was nobody actually knows how the metacritic score is calculated because metacritic won't tell.
So yeah... metacritic is all mighty and powerful and can dictate what studio lives or dies and since nobody knows how it works, who can tell if publishers have influenced it or not in the past to get away with underpaying the dev studios?

Thankfully crowdfunding changed that a few years ago for some studios

This is is reputation on the line. If the score was low, it would make sense. But 4/10 is "bad". And I'm pretty sure that Uncharted 4 is not bad.

So yeah, an artist who worked on a project and find that a critic unfairly rated the project might talk about the removal of said critical piece.

It's not about not liking. 4/10 is ridiculously low for a game like Uncharted 4.
>>
how insecure are sonyggers

There are two Washington post reviews. The 4/10 was a joke review that accidentally counted on the metacritic score and the legit review gave it 10/10

Back in the day

PSM magazine the italian version of it

>we do not accept "favors" from game companies and we judge all games on even grounds, that will means each game will get a one page review and if we want to insert a special for it we will add more pages

This was like 18 years ago, their score rating was from 1 to 5 nevertheless sometimes pages were containing two reviews instead of one cause old games or just not so popular games

Other magazines who had their "100% Official Playstation" crap were

>pumping scores
>circlejerking like /v/
>multiple X game specials

I do remember a six page special for Duke 3D,multiple Tomb Raider II and Fighting Force previews then the latter bombed so hard and they never talked about it,on the other hand PSM was still throwing shit at it cause they had no ties to Sony

Paid reviews were and are always a thing and this 10/10 parkour charted 4 is no excepetion

>It's not like other games stopped being made

Mid-tier console games basically disappeared outside of Japan. Nowadays there are only indies and AAA which just become more and more expensive, needing multi million units sold in order to be successful, which isn't a healthy model at all.

And of course, mid-tier titles died because they couldn't compare with AAA production values and people started expecting those values out of their console games. So, yes, AAA titles did ruin the market and decreased the amount of mainstream games we get in exchange for higher production values for the few titles left.

No, they're bitching about the Washington Post review. The written review doesn't have a number attached to it, but when Metacritic asked WP for an equivalent numerical value, Washington Post gave them a 4/10.

Honestly, I read the review (likely very few people have) and I agree wholeheartedly with it. Uncharted 4 is another entry in the "trilogy" in which it goes through the same paces as all three prior games, but has fewer shooting sequences, the same autopilot-linear climbing/chase sequences and a shitload more cinematic scenes/cutscenes.

On the first playthrough, the experience is novel, on a replay, it's dull as fuck, and you discover how bereft of actual gameplay (shooting) there is and you're just going through the motions of redoing the same climbing sections / puzzles and skipping all the very poorly paced cutscenes.

He hates DS1 too, mate. And DS2 is a very good game, too, it have a lot of improvements, compared to DS1. You can use buzzwords such as "charisma", "actual artificial difficulty" etc., but Dark Souls 2 is a solid game.
DS1 == DS2 == DS3. Learn to appreciate every souls game, take off your rose tinted glasses.

The stories aren't anything special, but Uncharted games have some of the best character interactions I've seen, both in writing and implementation into gameplay.

The latter sentence just doesn't make much sense. The levels have a lot of detail, but they always subtly highlight the important parts and direct you to the next goal, so I'd say they do the "communication with the senses" pretty well.

In other words, that statement isn't very true at all
>>
>>337910051

>>337909901

>Why would you even want this?
So I can know what issues there are in the game even if only a few people think of it?

The bigger problem is how Metacritic scores are being viewed as a metric for a game's success. This needs to stop.

Same with movies and RT scores.
>>
>>337910275
So let's see
You want me to go through the effort of reading dev blogs (because those totally tell me what works in the game, right?)
But you don't want to go through the effort of scrolling for 5 seconds to find a good user review
That's like screaming for all professional reviews to get deleted because you found one bad one
Just maybe think for yourself for once
>>
>>337910116
The characters talk to each other a lot, and the dialogue is really well written.
More importantly, much of the dialogue is reacting to what's happening in the game at the moment, which makes the characters feel natural in a way I haven't seen in other games.

For example, in one point you're exploring some caves with an AI controlled companion. If you manage to get lost from each other they yell to make sure both of them are okay, and if you meet the companion walking towards you they remard how the cave seems to be making a loop.
There's dozens of interactions like this in each level that you might or might not see, depending on how you're playing.
It doesn't sound like a huge deal, but it makes a big impact on the games' atmosphere, and it's what makes the series special in my opinion

Dark Souls 2 was designed by fucking Naotoshi Zin, you amateur.
>different character states - you can be wet, and lighting will damage you more, or if you covered in oil, fire damage will explode you
>interesting interactions with locations - sometimes you can lit all the sconces on the location and something will happen. Farros stones transforms the location, creating new traps or leading to a secret passages.
>Best covenants so far, with great PvE based Covenant Of Champions (DS3 covenants suck, deal with it, only purple bros are somewhat good)
>best complexitiy of battle mechanics, with unique armor and helmet properties, like the antibackstabbing armor or helmets which prevents headshot damage
>bonfire ascetics, which lets you to fight already slain bosses
>bets New Game+ in the series

The most oft-cited Voltaire quotation is apocryphal. He is incorrectly credited with writing, "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." These were not his words, but rather those of Evelyn Beatrice Hall, written under the pseudonym S. G. Tallentyre in her 1906 biographical book The Friends of Voltaire. Hall intended to summarize in her own words Voltaire's attitude towards Claude Adrien Helvétius and his controversial book De l'esprit, but her first-person expression was mistaken for an actual quotation from Voltaire. Her interpretation does capture the spirit of Voltaire's attitude towards Helvetius; it had been said Hall's summary was inspired by a quotation found in a 1770 Voltaire letter to an Abbot le Riche, in which he was reported to have said, "I detest what you write, but I would give my life to make it possible for you to continue to write."[89] Nevertheless, scholars believe there must have again been misinterpretation, as the letter does not seem to contain any such quote.[90]

The review was unscored. It was always meant to be unscored. It was just one man's opinion.

The Washington Post sent it in as a 4/10 to stir up shit. That's kinda fucked. What's happening here isn't censorship, it's removal of a score from a review that doesn't have a numeric score from its author anyway.

The problem with letting a satirical score affect the metascore is that developers get bonuses if a game exceeds a certain metascore after a sset time period based on their contracts. This affects the entire development team. So yeah. If a game is genuinely good (it is) then getting shit on for a clickbait article is bad for the team.

The fact that it is in the "Comic Riffs" section should be an indicator that this is not a serious review.

You can't argue that this is a shit game. It might not be your cup of tea, but there is nothing "bad" about it. The visuals are impressive. The gameplay is enjoyable for the average gamer, and it has a level of polish that you would expect from a AAA title. There are terrible games out there. If you want to shit on something, aim for the shitty movie tie-in of the month. I mean, I'm more or less done with Uncharted games. The formula is getting stale. Yet even I can recognize that the game is not shit. The only people trying to claim it is are edgy faggots that need an underage ban.

That said, I think that based on number of reviews, a certain number of the top and bottom reviews should be removed from the metascore. They do this in other systems, particularly sports scoring to eliminate extreme biases.
