Haa, I backed that on Kikestarter, one of only two projects. The other was Grip (Rollcage).
Overload looks fucking exceptional, the proof of concept pre-alpha demo played better than a lot of AAA new releases.
Original devs, writer from Freespace, original composer, Descent in every way bar name, fuck yes.

I'm really dismayed by the game running on Unity though. The demo required high requirements for good performance despite having such a simple and featureless environment. The explosions were the only modern looking thing about it.

I'm picking they'll optimise the shit out of it for release. Unity's a weird engine, not too familiar with it; it does seem the devs need to do some voodoo magic optimisation for decent framerates, I think Rust is another one with issues.
Not sure what other engine would have been available for the price point/licensing soul-selling.
