I just hit level 50 the other day, had done all the sidequests in the game and got the +50% ring ASAP, while eating food, doing my hunt log and low roulette, joined an FC for heat of battle's +10% and all that other crap, yet I still had to grind from 47-49.
There's not enough EXP in the game to hit 50 without grinding, unless you're doing low roulette daily throughout for more than 2 weeks.

Doing every single quest, including sidequests and whatever daily challenge logs and hunting logs you can up to that point used to put you roughly at around 48 and a half before the HW exp buffs, that's with doing every dungeon only once. You should already be in Northern Thanalan to spam FATEs and AV in between to get the last levels up to 50, and the rest of the 2.x story and sidequests will level you to around 53.

I just hit 50 on NIN, and I couldn't get a party for the Castrum so I decided to grind out B4B (which was torture but that's beside the point).
Anyway, before I start on level cap content I wanted to ask about how to play the class properly, and to practice a little. I can keep up my buffs/DoTs fine but it's often hard telling how long enemies will live, so I'll frequently put up dancing edge, shadow fang and mutilate only to have the fucking thing die seconds later; other times albeit less often I'll get caught out and start spamming Aeolian on something with a ton of HP left.
What I'd like to know are the minutiae of Ninja gameplay; like do I use Fuma over Raiton only when I have self-buffs up to avoid clipping GCDs or do I always just use Raiton? How do I handle large mobs of enemies; Doton vs Katon, and do I use mutilate/fang on them all first then spam whatever that kunai AoE attack is called, or just start spamming that to begin with?
What's the minimum number of tics required for each DoT to work out better than Aeolian spam, and how do I know if an enemy will live long enough to justify it? What order do I use Mutilate/Shadow Fang/Dancing Edge on an enemy that will live through at least one rotation? When do I pop buffs, when they're off cooldown or should I save them for trick attack?
Is there an opener for level 50 content? Do I need to buy Dexterity/poison potions? Etc.
Any other general tips would be appreciated.

It's a gamble between leveling your first class fast or leveling it slower but having some leftover sidequests so other classes aren't a total pain in the ass. Leveling other classes is still shit no matter what because all you're left with are dungeons, FATEs and leves before they become shit at around 30, so might as well use all quests for your first class, since it also lets you unlock everything faster. You do have to take them as soon as you're able to complete them or else they'll be scattered everywhere.
For HW though, you'll definitely be at a danger of reaching 60 with a bunch of leftover sidequests, and I say danger because depending on which sidequests you take and which dungeons you over spam and it doesn't really take a lot of them, you'll get to 60 with a bunch of sidequests scattered even more all over the fucking place with different level ranges.
Which might or might not be a good thing too, since some level ranges are still worse than others, depends on how OCD you are about seeing all those leftover quests every time you zone somewhere and not being able to clear them until 7 levels later

Use raiton for kassastu + trick attack. Use fuma every other time.
Doton at the start of a pull for aoe. Katon for burst aoe if you need more.
Using kassatsu on doton will make every tick crit so it's better to use kassatsu on that rather than katon.

Depends on the duration of course, but assuming everything is ready you'll want to get things out in the order of BFB > Katon > Kassatsu > Doton > IR inbetween your GCDs, which depend on the mob count. 4+ mobs means Death Blossom if you have the TP.
In terms of SF/Mutilate on them all, it isn't worth DoTing everything constantly as you wont have a slashing debuff to hit for all of your off and on GCD attacks, you'll want to mostly single target but swap to your AoE ninjutsu.

The 60 opener is this, for 50 I would swap IR and BFB as IR goes where it goes because of the way Duality forbids AE from critting and obviously just subtract the 50+ skills you don't have.

Its one of those fights where you have to be very overgeared to carry someone and one person fucking up can easily wipe the fight. Its not difficult by any means and it has next to 0 RNG but everyone needs to know what they need to do and finding 7 other people who aren't retarded is harder than the fight itself.
I recently went with my FC to try and help two other members get a clear. One of them was a tank who I know has seen the entire fight and says he "knew all of it" but yet he continually made stupid as fuck mistakes even with me and my static leader making call outs in TS.

You only get banned if you're telehacking dungeons (which is usually done by RMT goldfarmers). Botting fates to level has a nearly nonexistent ban rate. At worst, you'll get a 3-day slap on the wrist.
Botting crafting also has no risk; you can do it in a private room or even in a crowded area where you'll blend in with all the other people (and occasionally get petted if you're a lalafell like me)

Flying is super useful in quickly traversing every HW zone, you move much faster in flight and half of all zones are pretty much flight only.
God help a gathering class without flight.

The lowered prices is really weird, since there should be next to no reason for that price point, outside of the possibility ofthey're basing it off the gil currently circulating within the game, instead of overall per servers
With the new prices, I can now afford to buy three smalls on Excalibur, and that should really not be the case, when these houses are competing for FC AND personal spaces.
Housing is so bad in this game, that Yoshi could just have the tagline for the next expansion being "Everyone gets their own house!", and probably stockholm some new record for an SE title.

Housing really isn't bad, per se. It really suffered from the lack of areas for it (still will with the new wards) and options. They should have increased ward space and bar people/FCs from owning multiple homes.

I think the biggest issue ended up being the fact that they just unleashed housing to private buyers, on top of FCs. I can own a personal house for decoration purposes, and the same size house can allow a FC to do just about anything, since company workshop is tied exclusively to housing, unless SE has taken measures to assist houseless FCs on that front.
It seems like a massive issue here on Excalibur, where lots of smaller or newer FCs between Rank 6-8 exist, some with members into the 100s range, but they're technically locked out of content due to questionable design choices.

New pricing is like 3.5M max on any server for a small, instead of the original 5M that it was on larger / legacy servers. Some houses dropped about 15M-20M in price.
You can be in a FC and buy a house. The only caveat is that for a player to own a personal house, they have to be max rank with their GC, if I remember correctly. FC leaders can buy a FC house without that issue, provided the FC is Rank 6 or higher. I can also attest as a FC leader who bought FC housing, as well as personal housing, that there is an option to select what the plot of land will be used for, before finalizing payment.
Going to buy a FC house in Lavender Bed, then try to buy a Mist plot for myself afterwords, depending on when this update hits. Considering fronting some gil to a friend so he can buy a house in Goblet, and make me a tenant on his list, so I can have teles to each of the housing wards.

The new deep dungeons sound like they have potential, though this is still SE we're talking about.
The mixture of Nyzul and other elements makes it sound like a great idea on paper, but execution remains to be seen. Going to be another set of "relic" weapons, so to speak, due to having requirements to be able to use the special glowing weapons in outside content, on top of being able to customize them to some extent from what I recall reading.

Seeing as it's testing the water for new content, I'm fine with it being easy. They designed it to start at level 1, in order to allow friends and newer players to enjoy it together, since Yoshi has gone a bit overboard with "new player experience" as of late.
Given the randomness of the event, on top of the fact that players can DF it, and use any party composition, it isn't a bad idea to undertune it, instead of overtuning it like Savage.

I can vouch for Excalibur, since you'll at least be standing alongside other people that have a bit of care for the game itself. Prices are rather fair, due to the amount of crafters available on the server, and usually some kind of action going on.
There is a /v/ LS on there, but don't think there is any real /v/ FCs on Excal. I can offer an invite to my tiny group, if you play around 6-10 PM Eastern, or just want the free 5% exp buff til you figure things out. Bonus points if you're Maelstrom and looking to PvP.
Also read that Chaos Data Center seems to be very active on PvP, having 72 man content regularly over there.

PvP is simple enough, depending on what you're doing. The current 60 meta is Seal Rock, which is basically king of the hill mode, but with RNG usually determining the winner, besides one of the three factions feeding one of the other two to victory.
The other option at the moment is Feast, which is RNG based on the quality of your team and opponents. Otherwise, 4v4 fun that nets most people quick tomes, with less-than-horrible que times.
Within two weeks of running PvP dailies, you should have enough seals to buy the 205 PvP set, which will net you a big boost over many players that can't be assed to bother, as they only want the free tomes.

I'm on levi. Avoid the bigger FCs and stick with tighter knit people. I've been in my fair share of both Diamond Dust and Geuno. DD is pretty much just a circle jerk shithole with the FC lead and Geuno is pretty chill, but it's hard to make any lasting friendships in there since there are so many people spread out amongst 3 FCs.
Price wise, things are fair. Retards undercut too much on some items, but there are enough people around that you will eventually have buyers. Makes leveling crafters nice.
Clear wise, PF is awful. It is very much the NA is bad meme. The only real consistent clears you can get are with A5S and A6S. SephEX is just for hilarity.
Levi is a 8/10 server, one of the nicer ones around, but for your sake, find a medium FC and make friends.
