I don't give two shits about waifus, and I have to say, I actually really like Overwatch's character and level design. Battleborn's art direction really just does not click with me at all, something about the majority of the characters feels so off. Aside from that, from what I've seen, while the gamepaly itself looks decent, everything else around it just looks so very messy from an aesthetic point of view, to the design and color palettes of the menus and everything, I dunno. Just comes across as an odd mess, to me. I just don't have any interest in it, likely because of this, as aesthetics as a whole are so damn important. Though I don't care about it now, maybe I'll try it later, because I do enjoy RPG/FPS hybrids.

Is this bait? The downfall of gearbox is certainly something to be celebrated, and it has nothing to do with what their competition is.
They made their defining game with money that they took from SEGA, essentially stealing the money since they were supposed to use it to make Colonial Marines, but instead outsourced that to yet another company and made their own thing.
On top of that, they phone it in more than any other game developer. They've used the same engine for Borderlands 1, 2, pre sequel, and Battlborn, and despite the improvements in technology and hardware over that period of time they have done little, if anything, to improve their game's visuals. Obviously graphics aren't the only important thing, but their games like good sound and visual design as well, the voice acting and writing are terrible, the animations are jerky an unnatural and they put no thought into balancing their games which is especially heinous if you're making something that's focused on non-cooperative multiplayer.
So they steal money and can't be bothered to actually put effort into their games, so why the hell shouldn't people be happy if they drop out of game development altogether?
