That's actually a pretty major part of Gothic horror, especially with women.
It's this creeping feeling that somehow, a person would give up their fate to a demon because it liberates them from responsability. Even if their fate is horrifying, if there's something sexual about it, it creates this weird vibe of safety in helplessness. It's a big part of the original dracula, and in a more unsubtle but effective itteration, the hellraiser book series.

We learned about this in the academy, and then again in almost ever other class you take if you do Fire Inspector/Investigator.
You can see at 2:00 people are stuck in the threshold of the door. The main reason so many died that day was simply due to inadequate exits. You can see another exit at 5:00 that likely had almost no one use it (as people tend to run in the opposite direction of a fire).
The people breaking windows to get out are also causing problems. Even though, yes they are escaping and that's what you should do, they're ventilating the smoke. This encourages the fire to move in that direction, as that is where new oxygen is coming from.
NFPA 1 & 100 updated their shit tight after this.

It's fake. The scream was just an edit, and the actual footage was recorded in 1987, not 1974, which was the year of the death. There is NO fucking way a consumer-grade video camera of that quality, let alone with sound, would have existed in '74. You also need to keep in mind just how impossibly unlikely it would have been for someone to have been recording the show at that one incredibly-specific time, especially with technology that didn't even EXIST yet.
