Why do some people still play at 1080p when 2k & 4k are available?
Images are sometimes not shown due to bandwidth/network limitations. Refreshing the page usually helps.

Why the FUCK is 1440p so expensive still? 1440p is ~77% more pixels than 1080p, yet you can get 1080p monitors for $100 new, while the cheapest 1440p monitor I could find is $260. That's 160% more cost for 77% more pixels.

The difference between resolutions becomes more subtle to the human eye.

>>
>>337874743
>The difference between resolutions becomes more subtle to the human eye.
A) higher resolutions enable you to use bigger screens at the same pixel density
B) 1080p on 20"+ screens is still nowhere near having a pixel density so high that the human eye can't distinguish increases in pixel density for normal viewing distances for a 20"-30" monitor. Once you get used to really high pixel densities, 1080p starts to look pretty bad.

That said, the great thing about PC gaming is that you can choose between higher resolutions or more detail on a lower resolution so we can both get what we want.

But devs have to design games around performance, so they may have to end up cutting/downgrading things just so they can get good performance.

That's a good point
>1080p on 20"+ screens is still nowhere near having a pixel density so high that the human eye can't distinguish increases in pixel density for normal viewing distances for a 20"-30" monitor
It's not that they can't distinguish it, it's that the amount of difference they see isn't enough to justify the cost of having to jump up to that resolution.

Most 1440p and 144hz are still well-over $200. 4k ain't going under 200 for a long time. On top of that there aren't any GPUs that can handle 4k well at high settings.

Actually thinking about getting a 900p monitor. I have no idea where this chart comes from but It's been entirely accurate in my experience. I have a 50inch TV that sits around 5ft away from my sofa, and the difference between 1080p and 2160p is night and day. That said, the difference between 1440p and 2160 is more subtle but does still add a lot of detail.

It also depends entirely on your living situation. Presuming you're not scraping form paycheck to paycheck it's bretty cool.

SCREEN SIZE IS THE SIZE OF THE PIXELS, WHICH IS NOT RELATIVE TO THE SIZE OF THE SCREEN.

IF YOU HAVE A 1080P SCREEN THAT IS 27", AND A 20" 4K SCREEN, THE 4K HAS THE SUPERIOR IMAGE, BUT THE 1080P IS A BIGGER SCREEN.

DIFFERENT THINGS

Which is why I'm tempted to get it to hold me over until 4k is more affordable. Nope. They still get destroyed by a measly 200mhz overclock to the 900 series cards though.

4k monitor

I live in Maryland and would sooner die than live in a non semi modern coastal suburb

So I doubt I could afford a mortage on my current income.

I wonder if that's actually easy to do. It's probably the cheapest way to get a high pixel density monitor.

Are you Mexican?

This, i have a 980ti and play on 1080p tv because i like having minimum 150fps

human eye can't even see above 24 fps you fucking idiot

Is 4k/60hz still the max? From what I've seen bandwidth is still too much of an issue, hell, until fairly recent 4k/24hz was the norm, which is basically unplayable for vidya.
>>
>>337879807
Kek i know its bait but even if you can't seethe difference you can feel it, aim or move a camera in 60fps and below and do the same above 100, feels laggy same as when using vsync
>>
Why cant you fucks realize that not everyone has a high paying OR good paying job or obligations they must commit to?
Buy a luxury or buy a necessity gee I dont fucking know?

15" at 2880x1800 isn't that bad. If you could find a broken 15" rMBP with an intact screen for cheap I'd totally jump on the opportunity to try and turn it into a monitor.

But you're wrong, very very wrong

1440p 144hz monitors are expensive unless you play the lotto on Korean monitors

Maybe he's someone who saves money for important things instead of spending all of it on anime figures and bleeding edge hardware that will be obsolete in 2 years
>>
>>337879957
For monitors 4K / 60Hz is the max, not sure if it's a panel problem or a cable bandwidth problem. Some 4K TVs call themselves 120Hz but it's not it real 120Hz, it's motion interpolation and black frame insertion.

1440p 144/165Hz is the best stuff for games on the market right now and I have one
>>
When I'm playing a game I don't stop every second, take a screen shot, and post it on reddit. It's a waste of money.
>>
>>337877264
I'm sorry son but whatever you used to do that isn't working, the aliasing gives it away.
>>
>>337881806
You can do this via downscaling anyway. Taking a screenshot at 4k in DSR will produce a 4k image.
>>
Daily reminder to not use the phrase "4k"

>horizontal resolution
>rounding to the nearest thousand
>>
>There are 4K monitors on the market that are shitty TN
Why would someone buy that shit? If you're going to spent all that money you might as well get the good colors and contrast of IPS. It's not like you're going over 60Hz at 4K.

Because /v/ hates games.
