It was HEAVILY modeled after Link To The Past at the core. The gimmick was that, baseline, there was just swords, shields, bombs, bow and arrow, and heart pickups. Everything else had to be coded in the in-built editor using, if I remember correctly, Java by the people making the server.
There was an RP-heavy server that had entirely custom weapons with custom animations, visuals, combat system, etc. and it was so fucking great.

I was in love. In fact, Dreams were the shit so I just tried making the best "Dream" around.
Then I found out how to scam people out of wings and it was TOO fucking easy to do.

GA2 had some of the worst, probably most illegal P2W I've ever seen in a video game. Literally it was PAY TO GAMBLE FOR A CHANCE TO EARN ITEMS. You couldn't just straight up buy shit, you had to fucking gamble and hope you won something good. I didn't even know it was legal to let kids gamble. Isn't the minimum age for it like 18?
And the servers were complete ass too. I think the only posts that ever happened on the official forums were "lag".
I'm honestly surprised the game lasted even half as long as it did.

Try playing Ragnarok, MapleStory, even stuff like Ultima. Probably the best thing you could do is make sure players aren't railroaded by quests and instead are encouraged to explore either from the start or after a short (maybe hour or two long) tutorial. Don't add instancing. Make griefing possible, and don't be afraid to keep stories contained in towns and junk without resorting to chosen one garbage.

EU at least had Sun Ring and Sealing Swords for a fuckton of WIN, but I'm not sure why they didn't carry that here in NA. Your literal cheapest and least P2W option was Unicorn or Berserker + Bamboo Sword so that must've been another reason why you're forced to do the gambling shit if you wanted Naginata or Mighty Fortress.

The only way a player could deal with them that shitty item in the shop that spawned a mob which instakills you if you attack it, but it had a couple of hours cooldown or something so what's the point if there's 50 fucking bots in an area
