Obviously "actual hacking" is actual hacking and nothing more, but for example, Deus Ex hacking felt more like actual hacking than Watch Dogs hacking, and Uplink hacking felt more like actual hacking than Deus Ex.

Did you play the game? I'm talking about the hacking puzzle where you need to close a circuit, by toggling connection points, which all influence each other in an unknown way, and the only way to solve it is to understand the hidden semantics of how they influence each other. Reverse-engineering an executable feels somewhat similar. You poke around in the darkness, make assumptions based on your observations and then experiment to see if they hold true. You repeat this process until you understand whats going on.

Nah, I play games for the gameplay, and that isn't even a comparable argument. The Shock team has never felt the need to improve something that clearly sucks so they stick to graphics, atmosphere and story. That's well and good but I have to do the shitty combat in order to progress.
