Sucks that you built right now when new GPUs are coming out soon but I guess playing games now is better than playing games later. You may want an HDD for storage, games are getting bigger and bigger so 1.2TB may not cut it eventually.

With new gens of CPUs and decent coolers 'shorten life-span' is becoming a meme.

Newer smaller die CPU are efficient, you can go from4 to 4.5Ghz without even touching the volts.

Stock cooler stock speed stays below 60 load, with decent cooler and OC you can still stay around 60, which is the same.

And I5 non K perfectly matches the R9 390 / GTX 970.

But to really get the most out of the 390x / 980 and beyond, OCing to 4.5Ghz might get you another 15fps.

Getting an i7k might even push numbers more.

But really it all depends on the game.

It's never ending.

For me, a $600 i5 + R9 380 / 390 is perfectly fine.

But if you obviously have the money and can afford the 980Ti and i7k, what's a little OC do to your wealth?

New generations offer higher performance while maintaining the same prices.
>>

>>
>>337814185

with the top-end GPUs you get 15-30fps going from an i5 to an i7

now those extra thread might be the reason, and only when certain games need it

but on games that doesn't require more threads BUT benefits fromstronger/ higher clocked speed, OCing might get you another 10fps

it's always worth it if you have the money
>>
>>337803485
>skylake i7
>with just a 390
>over 1 TB SSD space
The i7 is overkill, and you could save there and upgrade later since the socket is sure to stay around for a while. The graphics card is underpowered compared to the CPU, and it's an extremely poor time to buy a GPU right now. Even if you won't buy a next gen one the price drop to older models will be large. DDR4 is a waste if you don't get anything faster, at least buy a mobo that supports upgrading to something fast, and 650W is retarded on a 1 GPU rig.

Mediocre effort, spectacularly bad for the cost.

Face it Nvidiots

You guys had the edge all these years because AMD had to deal with having a high CPU overhead with DX11

The tables are turning now.

Nvidias have DX12 and async compute issues

Couple that with the usual gimping move.

Who cares about TDP, temps and power efficiency?

If current AMD runs as hot as last gen Nvidia, why is that a fucking big deal?
You guys were fine with it then.

The new AMD Polaris are on par with Pascal's efficiency.

In fact, AMD are on 14nm against Nvidia's 16nm.

So you got this.

Nvidia
> DX12 Async Compute issue.
> Gimping of last gens.
> GTX 970 3.5gb+512mb VRAM, newer games are going to eat a WHOLE LOAD VRAM

Screencap this.

A year later the R9 390 will surpass the GTX 980, and the GTX 970 falls below the R9 380.

To be fair tho, the 390 is a fantastic card and the best price>performance card on the market but holy shit did AMD fuck up with the Nano/Fury/Fury X cards.

See: >>337819373

There's literally no reason to buy them over the Nvidia counterparts (980/980ti). They're more expensive and offer significantly less performance on average with OCs brought into question

Drop the i7 and get a better GPU (980/980ti) once the new cards drop (for price cuts) or get the 1080/1080ti.

There is absolutely no reason to go overboard on an i7 that offers virtually zero performance increase over a significantly cheaper 4690k when you can use the money instead to get a better GPU.

Providing you're getting a gaming rig tho. If not then stick with the 390, it's the best AMD card on the market

Just research, you'll find an answer.

Wait for the new Nvidia cards to drop to see price drops, otherwise >>337820725 makes a good point. 390 is the best price>performance card on the market and it overclocks well, if you have the extra dough then wait for the 1080/1070 after market cards to come out (NEVER get reference cards, fuck that) or if you're impatient pick up a 980/980ti, they're essentially the best upper tier cards on the market right now. 980 bumps heads with the more expensive Fury card (X not included) but overclocks significantly better (the Fury cards literally can't OC for shit) and can turn into a 980ti with a simple overclock. The 980ti itself though is unmatched right now, it's the best card on the market right now, unreleased cards not included.

TL;DR
>Price>Performance = 380/390
>Upper end card = Wait for 1070/1080 after market variants or else wait for 980/980ti price drops and choose between them

I personally own a 980 so I can speak first hand that the only AMD card I would recommend over a 980 is the 390 purely due to how significantly cheaper yet still commendable in its power. Outside of that, wait for pricedrops/new cards

Buying new GPUs and CPU's is actually a good deal. Skylake is like the same price as Haswell with slightly better performance and much better power efficiency. Same with new GPUs, you're getting better performance per price, and this gen is much better for VR and of course better power efficiency. I'd say if you're in the market always buy the newest gen.
>>

Why? The only W10 game worth a shit is Killer Insinct and people that think DX12 will be relevant are retarded and are forgetting DX10

Im not from the US, prices are different here.
I5-6500 is $232 USD here.
ASRock Z170M Pro4S is only $10 cheaper than the ASUS Z97-A.
With Cryorig H7 i dont get a free AS5(not like it matters but still), same for the H5 version, also more expensive.
Im waiting for black friday to buy some storage, i already have a 240GB ADATA SP550 i used on my old laptop, it works better than any HDD, i will upgrade to a M2 SSD instead.

And im indeed waiting for the new GPUs.
>>
>>337826783
Because Windows 10 is not to be trusted as a primary OS and also has a lot of issues with older games.

At the same time, it's necessary for most of the Xbone/PC games like Halo Wars 2, Gears Ultimate, Killer Instinct, and Recore.
>>
>>337826507
This shit drives me nuts. I want to do a full rebuild, but I don't want to buy a new MOBO until I have a CPU I want. I won't have a CPU I want until a new CPU noticeably outclass my 5.0 OCed 2500k. And nothing new really does. Yeah, I'm sure if I bought a top end i7 I would see a small increase, but fuck dumping 400 bucks for a tiny increase.

I dread how many years I will have to wait before CPUs finally get to a point where I can say "yeah, this is definitely worth dumping my 2500k for".

Because 4k takes considerably more GPU power than 1440. People REALLY underestimate how much of a factor resolution is in performance. 4k pretty much requires dual high end cards just for good performance. And can still be worse performance than a single card at 1080p will typically do.

First off, if you don't trust something don't put it on your computer period.

Just get an xbone.

If you WANT W10 it doesn't matter if its on a separate SSD or not. It will do whatever nebulously evil things not matter where you stick it. Don't drink the /g/-aid.
>>
>>337827142
>>337827002
Also its not $10.

From I5-4460 to 6400 there is a $40 difference and a $55 difference between the I5-6500.
Again, third world prices.
>>
>>337827293

>If you WANT W10 it doesn't matter if its on a separate SSD or not. It will do whatever nebulously evil things not matter where you stick it. Don't drink the /g/-aid.
Not true. If you know what you're doing, the drives won't even know each other exist.
>>
>>337827293
>Just get an xbone.
This. I've seen some xbone on Craigslist for $200. A far better alternative than Windows 10.
>>
>>337827449
If you want to waste money because /g/ convinced you you needed to and because you can't avoid playing shitty games then go for it. Doesn't make it any less stupid.
>>
>>337826589
>Why don't people just go all the way to 4k at this point?

3840x2160 requires a lot more power than 3440x1440. While the numbers seem close they are not. 4k is a significant step up in required power for very little pay off.
>>
>>337826989

just mitigate the cost by selling off your CPU / board

you can still get $150~ for it

an asrock z170m is $99 and the i5 6500k is $233

$333 - $150
= $183

You'd also need to change RAM but then it won't cost you $50 especially if you could sell your old RAM

that's $250 MAX
>>
>>337827636
For what gain though? A 6500k isn't going to give enough of an increase to justify 250 bucks, and thats essentially all I would have spend the money for.
>>
>>337827449
What evil things do you expect W10 to do?

I don't get what you have been convinced W10 will do if you put it on your primary SSD.

you could still probably get another 10% from OC

just $200 worth of upgrade man

i5 6600k $233
asrock z170m $99
g.skill 8g 2133 $30

$362 - $150 = $212

$150 for a used i5 2500k + z-board + ram? it's gonna sell quick.
>>
>>337828202
I have no doubt the stock speed is faster. The stock speed on the 2500k is absymal compared to modern CPUs. But mine is OCed to just under 5.0, which makes it pretty competitive.
