I just picked up the trilogy for 3DS because sale. It's been 10ish years since I played the first one, so it's like a fresh start.
Do I need to play anything else before Duel Destinies besides the trilogy? It's on sale too, probably going to pick it up.

See now, for me, it's my second-favorite chapter in the whole franchise, after Farewell, My Turnabout. It's full of funny little touches, and the back and forth on the last day is the stuff of legends.
Rounding out my top 5 would be The Stolen Turnabout, Turnabout Goodbyes and Turnabout Reclaimed.

For me I found little investment in the DL-6/Turnabout Sisters rip off story, but I have to agree taking down Gant is one of my favorite moments in the series.

Part of what makes it special for me is that I bit down hard on the idea thatEma might've been guilty, and it only dawned on me what was wrong with the decisive evidence at the exact moment I was supposed to point it out. Great pacing.
As for 3-5, there's two major strikes working against it: I was so tired of Psyche-Locks by the end it wasn't even funny, and I was never impressed with Godot as a character in the first place, even asthe final boss, and speaking of rehashing DL-6,how about that final answer?
Whale case was a lot of fun though, and the brightest spot in DD.

Turnabout Reclaimed was a good filler case, but that was it.
It might have been a highlight for some in DD but when you think about it that's really sad, and for being just a good filler case it had no right being DLC.
RftA was a free n-4 long added bonus case, for free; in DD you get a n-2 long alright case that you have to pay extra for.
Also parrot rehashing + severely neutered psyche-locks.
